@backfire I heard you say that the ELDx is your preferred hunting bullet and I want to know if it’s also what you taken elk with with the high shoulder shot. If yes, did it hold up?
Yes, I do like the ELDX and yes we’ve used it for high shoulder shots on elk to fantastic success. The ELDX fragments but still gets around 20” of penetration.
I have to admit I’ve come full circle on the ELD-X. I avoided using it for a long time because people talked about it being a grenade and I was worried about meat loss, but it really is such a great bullet. You’ll likely lose a bit more meat than if you used a mono, but it just kills animals so well. No free lunch.
Supposedly there’s a new’ish bullet from DRT that is fragmenting mono. Might be a good option for those with lead restrictions.
I want to/need to try one myself. I’ve heard the same stories as you.
Took me a while though to find a rifle which likes them. But now I’ve got 2 which do.
Unfortunately I struck out on my Kansas tag this year. So it’s small NC does for me.
Me and my hunting party have used Eldx for the past two seasons for elk and have went 5 for 5 with bulls that have dropped in there tracks. No need to blood trail when they are laying there. All 5 bullets were in the opposite shoulder hide Not much more than I could ask for. We had another Freind use a mono and great shot in the heart but had to trail for a while to recover.
