Starting a conversation on the E- Bike fad that is growing fast. Last deer season I noticed quite a few bikes in or on the back of pickups, more so than four-wheelers.
I’m curious as to how many hunters are using electric bikes to get to their stands or scouting areas.
Do you find them beneficial or detrimental to your way of hunting?
Do you use one for any other purpose?
Which is better, an e-bike or ATV?
Are you customizing your e-bike for your specific needs?
I haven’t used one for hunting but love my ebike. Super fun to just zip straight up hills. Adjusting the motor output makes it so you can put in consistent pedal force whether you’re on flat ground or going up a hill, and the motor makes up the difference. Just feels like I can go anywhere.
I have two e-bikes and really do prefer the Himiway (previous sponsor). It’s half the price of my other one (can’t remember the brand right now) and it’s way more powerful and hasn’t needed any tuning like the other one. Buy Best Fat Tire Electric Bike Online | Himiway Bikes
I have been on the fence about purchasing a bike for about a year, and I took the plunge a month ago. The deciding factor for me was that I lost my lease, and to get to my stands on the new hunting property will be just short of a 2-mile hike through corn-bean fields. I considered an ATV but have no room in my garage, also I thought an ATV is a little noisy for those early morning hunts. I happened to come across a deal and took the plunge. Presently I am adding baskets and a few other things to carry “needed stuff” for a day’s hunt. Everything I do becomes a project to make things just a little better. The plan is that this bike is strictly for the field and not a street cruiser.
The wife and I have had e-bikes for a couple of years and love them, they make terrain a non-issue. I don’t think you need to spend quiet kat money to get an e-bike for hunting. I have not hunted with one but would want a 750 min rear hub motor and throttle. The mid drives are nice, but if you break a chain or break a derailleur you will be walking. Look for hydraulic front brakes, front suspension and a suspension seat post. My only concern right now is getting game out of the woods, do you quarter and make multiple trips, or get one of the wagons available. For the money, the Aventon Aventure Gen 1 is on sale for $1499 if you can still find one. It is heavy, but a beast. There are several non-biased e-bike reviews on you tube, I like e-bike reports.
You are correct, prices are all over the place and they are all heavy compared to a standard pedal bike. As far as the chain goes you have a good point there. But researching that topic and from my own personal experience with road bikes, a chain break is a rare occurrence.
I wonder if the e-bike frames and drives are the same or close from one brand to the other. Is it just a marketing ploy to get you to pick one that is covered in camo versus a street looking bike, are they basically the same minus the camo paint job and a few less accessories? I set my mind to wanting a bike for the field, could a street cruzer style accomplish the same thing, I don’t know. There were a few specific things I was looking for and that was a powerful mid drive motor and an enclosed rear gear assembly. I decided on a Rambo Venom and am doing my own personal touches to fit my style of hunting. It is nowhere near the cheapest but buy once cry once and be happy with your choice.
The brands that seem to be catering to the hunting lifestyle are Rambo, Quiet Kat and Bakcou. What makes one better than the other, who knows. Its like are you a Ford, Chevy or Dodge fan. I just happen to love my Ram.
