Probably I’m one of the few Europeans here. Guns are very restricted and require quite some paperwork. Still I’m a fan of nice stuff. Own a Laugo Alien - FabARm STF12 telescopic 22" - Schmeisser DMR .223, SAko TRG 22 .308 (normal stock) since ranges are limited here to 100m, and since I’m ex-military access to 400m(420yards) sometimes en very rarely (1x per year) 1000 yards. I was thinking about a Sako S20 Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor, target shooting max 420 yards only. outdoor limited wind
never used Creedmoor how does it compare to .223 / .308 if precision is my goal , barrel life?
S20 a good choice to add to the family?
which scope would beat my Steiner M5Xi?
I have no issues with budget
I think you enthusiasts have much more experience. Have a great day all!
Barrel life will be ~2-3x greater with a .308, and both will be equally effective out to 400m. However, 6.5 Creedmoor will have advantages at greater distances, if you ever want to do that. The barrel life thing isn’t a huge deal for most people because its thousands of rounds.
I just recently got my first Schmidt & Bender scope, and man is it nice. I went with a Zenith because it’s what I could afford and the application was hunting, not precision. You’d probably look at a different line like the PM II or whatever they call it. The S&B I have stands heads and shoulders over say a Steiner Predator 4, but I am not familiar with their M5Xi so that would be a different comparison I guess.
I requested the Sako 90 Quest Ultra, seems to be a delivery time of 12 months over here; since demand in US market seems to be high. Thank you for the tip. I will probably need to stick to S20
Hello @alexfields thank you for your informative answer, I will follow and stick to 308 since it is after 223 the most common here. So now it is scope shopping and I will happily look into the S&B and the Leupold Jim recomended. Have a great day !
Its not all US folks on this forum, I am in Scotland and shoot out in our highland range from 350 - 1000 yards with my Sako S20 6.5 Creedmoor, with Element Optic Nexus scope. I use it for competitions, long range and stalking.
It is a great rifle, smooth bolt action, no issues to date, it is a little heavy for mountain stalking but I use a 3HGR sling which takes most of that issue away.
Owning and having used lots of other rifles, I can only give positive reviews, you will not regret buying this for your cabinet.
Guns chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor seems to be on order only in Belgium. Thanks for sharing! I will take that into account for sure. Great place Scotland, toured it on motorbike and car. Many long distance ranges?
