Has anyone seen primer inconsistency since availability came back? I think I have had 3 bad primers recently. One cost my son his first cow elk after 4 days of hard hunting. Big bummer!!!
Dang. Sorry, haven’t had any issues personally.
What did it do?
perfect primer dent, nada. I had it happen with 2 CCi primers as well. I would say 2 out of 40 rounds for both Federal and CCi. I don’t think I ever had the issue before the reloading shortage. When did that start? 2020?
All in the same rifle?
Weird, the only centerfire primers I have ever had a failure on were in loaded hornady 155 grain steel ammo. I had quite a few not fire on the first go; I could re-cock and they fired on the second attempt.
same rifle. My friend originally had it sent to his gun smith years ago, set the trigger to like 1.75 lbs. He thinks that could play a role? Not sure?
I wouldn’t think the trigger weight could be the reason… After the sear breaks it’s all the same right?
?? I’m not a gunsmith
The primer strikes all looked good to me
You have had issues with both CCI and Federal. Have you had a gunsmith check the firing pin or striker spring? Not knowing anything about the history of the rifle or your reload this would be my approach. The next question is if these are magnum primers, If so they can require a heavier impact. Just my thoughts.
Yes. Magnum primers. I will have my gunsmith do a check up.
