Hey All so my Tikka T3X Lite Roughtech build in the MDT XRS is having som feeding issues with Hornady Match/precision hunter and Federal . Bolt face not really picking up the cartridge well. Sometimes It fails to feed. Using MDT Metal Mags . Magpuls will not snap into place and fully seat . The feed lips seem extra big and bulky Ordered the MDT poly ones will see if it solves it.
Metal mags seat but can be a little and I mean a little rattlely. If I reseat mag and lift a little on the bolt It catchs. No issue with snap caps at all smooth as silk. As a newb not sure what adjustments I can make to get It to feed. Every time. The bolt is very smooth.
One thing you can try is messing with the feed lips. They have tools designed for such a thing but you could probably use a vice.
Basically if you bend the feed lip out your case will sit higher up and be more likely to be caught by the bolt as it moves forward. You have to pay close attention to what the nose is doing too, and play around with it a bit to get it just right.
I’m assuming you have made sure the receiver is properly set in the chassis with the recoil lug in place and bolts torqued.
Yes torqued down 3 x to 65 “LB Nad the lug is solid.
Funny they make tool for this one would think a flat piece of bar stock would do It will look at how they use the tool
My initial thoughts are always its not teh equip its the connection but the feed is off. Ill look a vids on adjusting mags. Ordered the MDT Poly’s too we shall see
Can you show us a pic of the magazine full of ammo? That’d help to see how much the ammo is sticking up out of the mag to see if you need to bend the feed lips.
@backfire thanks if you see anything or have advice on how to look at these and tell let me know would be nice to have that intelligence moving forward!
Got to love AI… Asked the question and It defined the problem the bolt is skipping so I would need to narrow teh rear feedl ips lightly to get the rear up a bit .
I orderd the tool as you can never have enough tools
@backfire Would really appreciate the feed back to see if this is the right corse of action with my err….action
Another albeit silly thing to check but I’ve done it so I’m sure someone else has as well. But if you took off your trigger to adjust the spring or for whatever reason, you could check to see if the magazine retention spring is in the right orientation.
