Trying to think through decision of buying a lighter weight hunting rifle (currently lugging an RPR in 6.5 cm which is also the gun I use for PRS so it’s heavy).
I’m torn between two options:
Springfield waypoint in 6.5 PRC (current prices appear just over $2k for most stores online)
Order a Fierce Rival XT (has the new adjustable comb and removable mag) in 7 PRC with an 18” barrel. Depending on action and barrel material it looks like this is roughly $300-700 more than waypoint
Some other factors are:
prefer to hunt suppressed (have a nomad 30 now)
I prefer a removable mag over floor plate
I’m able to reload
I’m in Texas and that’s where most hunting will be (deer/hogs) but would like to have the option to reasonably hunt elk (hoping to go in next couple years)
Not sure which way to lean as I’d like this to cover as many hunting bases as possible.
I have a waypoint 308 and a fierce mountain reaper 300prc and I love them both! If I had to pick I would do the fierce carbon rival do in 7 prc. It will take nearly any game, match chamber, and just awesome. The xp has detachable mag, has adjustable cheek piece lighter than the waypoint with the adjustable cheek piece. I don’t have nor do I need the adjustable on my waypoint. The main reason I would go fierce is the chamberings. Waypoint is limited. I like 7 prc better as all in one rifle than 6.5 prc. My waypoint and my fierce are .5” guns , I frequently get sub .5” groups. Either way you will get great rifle though!
Who here has a Fierce gun? What has been your experience? I am also thinking about getting a Fierce rifle, but can’t decide if I should get the carbon rogue or carbon rival.
Matt,
I have a Carbon Rogue in .308 with an 18" barrel. I also have a Carbon Rival XP in 7PRC with a 20" barrel that has the detachable magazine. I love both of these guns. They both shoot sub 1/2" groups and have great triggers. I know Jim has mentioned that some people have feeding issues with the detachable magazine on these rifles, but I have not experienced that at all.The only difference in the 2 rifles is that the Rival has an adjustable cheek piece and the Rogue does not. Personally I have not even used the cheek piece, but some people might find it advantageous. And you cannot get the Rogue with a detachable magazine. Otherwise, they are very similar. Hope this helps.
I have a Carbon Rogue in 7prc. I have been very happy with it. I shoot suppressed with a Raptor with reflex chamber that covers back over the carbon wrapped barrel. It is scoped with a Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50.
