Hi Guys , I have been watching the YouTube a lots but new to this site.
I live in Yukon, I’m so lucky because it’s a hunter’s paradise. However, I can’t really test a gun or see it in store before buying it.
I wanted to buy the Rival, but reading the comment and seeing the videos, it feels like that vertical grip is beefy and short ( compare to a waypoint 2020 for example).
If Jim thinks otherwise then I might revise my decision . but I decided to go for with the Rogue. 300Wm would be my pick because you need a .30 ( 30-06 being the minimum) for Bison hunting.
Anyway, my main question is the retailer im dealing with have the 300 in 20in and 22in barrel. I could wait for a 24in but not sure how long. I would have pick 20 in for ease of carrying but reading about it people talk about extra noise, not burning all your powder or that it makes a .300 a 30-06.
any thoughts or recommendations?
maybe just getting a tikka tx3 in a MDT h26 ?
Hey Tony, I’m the content producer for Backfire. I would say it’s a wise decision to not go with the Rival, although I love the one Jim has and it is super accurate and lightweight, the barrel has a problem creating too much pressure which can essentially make the gun explode. I don’t know if that is something that all Rival’s have problems with but the one Jim has does.
As far as the T3X in an MDT HNT 26 Chassis, that would be my personal choice. Jim has a Tikka rifle that I have shot a couple of times and I love it, the action is smooth, it’s accurate, but the stock feels cheap-ish. His Tikka isn’t in a HNT 26 Chassis but he has another gun with one and I love the feel of it. So I can only imagine how awesome they would be if you put them together.
On a side note, we did just review the Sako S20 and for the money, nothing beats that gun. So if I could get any gun in that $1,400 price range the Sako S20 would 100% be my choice.
That’s just my not so professional opinion though, so don’t base your purchase off of it, but just thought I’d pop in and share that!
@Tonystew I’d go 22" minimum in a 300 WM, but probably lean towards the 24".
@gkricks84 Any way we can get a little more info about this pressure issue you guys are seeing with that rifle? Do you mean reloads in that rifle are showing pressure signs earlier than in other rifles in the same caliber?
Thanks man, the tikka and sako both come at 24in for the 300.
its weird that they offers things that doesn’t really makes sense but because its out there ( like a 20in barrel in 300wm ) i almost bought it thinking that they should know what they do ( manufacturer)
For me, I’d pick a Sako S20 in 300 win mag and use the Sako Powerhead Blade ammo, which shoots exceptionally well in their rifle.
The Fierce is a good gun but I’m not sure it’s the right platform for a heavy cartridge like that, plus you’re going to save several hundred dollars that you could put toward a Burris Veracity PH scope
