Hog hunts and other North American fenced hunts are great for target rich trips, but what about a group hunt that could build camaraderie and lasting friendships, filled tags or not? Would you want it to be diy, guided, semi-guided/drop camp or something other? A trip that maybe wouldn’t come to fruition for some folks if it wasn’t a group trip. Something with some physical struggles, but not coastal jungle or sheep/mtn goat country level struggles. I’ve often pondered the haul road, but recent years it’s become so popular even the local folks say it’s as hazardous as public land Wisconsin whitetail rifle season without the lead flying everywhere. Then there’s opportunities like Adak with the option of 2 cow caribou and 1 bull caribou tag, but the heard is generally on the south side of the island until the weather becomes unreasonable to hunt around the town, so you would need to charter a boat to get to them. Maybe a coastal black bear hunt from a charter boat? There’s also eastern US options like Sika deer in Dorchester county Maryland, or hogs in Florida. And then there’s always spring bear in the GYE region and surrounding areas. Heck, even something as simple as chasing squirrels with good company can be fun. Ultimately, I think many of us would enjoy a slight DIY experience while still having folks we can lean on for knowledge and experience from their own adventures. At 48 having spent the last decade mostly bowhunting Nebraska, Missouri and Idaho for whitetail, muleys, elk and pronghorn I’ve had for more tag soup meals and trips cut short from frustration than I’ve had success and I’d love to not only change that for myself but also share new adventures with new friends.
Im currently in Wa on the precipice of moving to North Idaho im buying a rural home on 8.3 acres my 40x48 shop has a walk in cooler. Id be willing to have a few guys on here bring their RVs for a Backfire hunting adventure.

I think Backfire group hunts are an awesome idea. A succesful hunt is always the idea, but building friendships and good camradarie is also very important. I came to hunting later in adulthood. I have a good number of water fowl and upland hunts under my belt, but I’m still looking to take my first big game animal. I have done a few public land hunts for deer here in Northern California, where I live, but haven’t had the chance to take a buck.
So with that in mind, as I am a less experienced hunter, I am thinking a semi-guided hunt. I also like the idea of some physical struggles. Not anything too crazy, but I like having some physical challenge. It adds to the experience, especially if you do have a successful hunt.
I think get togethers for the Backfire community, having new adventures and making new friend is an excellent idea. I think several arranged regionally might be a good way to go. Open to all, but spread out geographically, so there would be an opportunity to join a hunt wherever you live, without crossing coasts.
Looks like there’s a few of us that live in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area- seems like we could get together for a fun shoot somewhere even if it’s at someone l’s place for a 100 yard shoot etc…..

I’m part of a gun club called, Fernan gun and rod club. It’s in Cda they have private bays for running drills and making courses then the have 100 yard to 1300 yard targets. Really nice range, it costs 300 for the year and it’s open 24/7 all year round
I wanted to do this same thing here in TX for a hog hunt. I had too many life things get in the way. It was tougher than I thought to plan and organize. Hope your able to get something together.
Thats awesome love to go shoot with you in the near future. I belong to a gun club here in Wa close to the house its been nice to shoot in the morning come home reload a diffrent charge or seating depth then go shoot again.

What is the mule deer hunting like on the eastern WA side? I see a few YouTube channels like Samong Outdoors hunting them in Washington, but not sure if he’s very far east. Being OTC it’s an opportunity to get in the mountains and adventure if nothing else.
It’s tough hunting for Mule deer in the general units as the state doesn’t seem to me manage for mature deer but looks towards more revenue management then trophy management… but does have some trophy draw units that are really hard to draw like most states. But if you’re not picky there can be some good years at times… I’d rather dump my cash into Idaho or Montana, even if it’s for some whitetail doe tags. Then Donate anymore money to the Westside politicians, As all WA fish and Wildlife revenue goes into there general fund and the governor decides what WDF&W gets for a budget…
I’ll say for Mule deer it’s pretty good the farther north you get. I don’t know about tags for that though.
I should probably add that with Washington offering resident priced tags to 30% or higher VA Rated vets it’s a good chance to get guys off the couch and out of their heads. Heck, if they can get transportation sorted out I’ll cover the tag and license fees just to expose them to something great and new.
