Glass bedding Picatinny rail ans Scope rings

Jim, I was watching GoHunt’s Brady Miller’s rifle build series. He glass beds his picatinny rail to the rifle and glass beds his scope rings / scope.
Whats your opinion on this?
Anyone here actually done this?

Brady definitely sets up a hunting rifle in a unique way.

I don’t know that I agree with bedding the rings. You’re adding a substance with some degree of thickness into the rings. Rings are made with an incredibly tight tolerance, so I can see the possibility for actually making things worse. Can’t knock it till I try it but I’d question that.

Bedding the rail to the rifle makes more sense but I’m not sure you’d get much of a purchase on the material. A slick rounded top of an action and an arched underneath side to a pic rail don’t seem to me to be the type of connection that’d really add much strength.

But again, can’t knock it till I try it.

Im in agreement I just dont think it adds that much precision, the scope rings threw me for a loop.

I epoxy bed my pic rails and use a release agent. Kiwi neutral shoe polish, on the action.I use Burris XTR Signature rings that have a rubber insert that self aligns. This mitigates the need to lap the scope rings, which I have done. Amazon has good prices on the rings…I follow a BR shooter, Bryan Zolnikov, that uses those rings on his March scope. He’s set records and won Sniper King a few times. He has around 25 years of shooting experience including BR, PRS, and F-class…

Do you get measurable improvement with bedding the pic rail?

I’ve never checked before and after. It’s more of a QC thing to get the rail perfectly mated. If you place the rail on the action, tighten front screws till barely snug. Check for a gap at the rear. Use a piece of paper or something thinner. If there is space, filling that void is what the bedding is for, I have measured .002-.003 on several actions. If you choose to not bed then the rail will flex a very tiny amount. I don’t know if it would make a measureable difference but I seriously doubt it, I do it as a matter of course just to make me feel better. I’m meticulous and try to make what small differences I can where I can. It’s just my nature, it would bug the living crap out of me if I knew the difference was there and did nothing about it. Also, I’m retired and enjoy my gun/ammo time…
