I’m heading to the Brooks range for a moose hunt this fall. I’m told I will be doing a ton of sitting and glasssing. Should I bring some sort of a seat or seating pad? What about a tripod for my binoculars?
If you’ve never sat on your tush glassing for hours before, I’d recommend anything that is going to make it more enjoyable.
Crazy Creek Hex 2.0 (~1 lb 5 oz, ~$70) is a folding pad that opens to have a back. However, you’ll be setting this on the ground.
Small folding/packable chairs are abundant and similar in option, but they will be more comfortable to sit in. Tradeoff is they are larger, less packable, and require setup and teardown. If you spot a big bull and need to move, it’s one more thing to pack.
For the tripod, if you’re with a guide, you may be able to get away with not having one. They are still nice to have, so again, how comfortable do you want to be? Or, how fast do you want to be?

I don’t know what size your binos are? But if your in the 10x range I find a nice lightweight monopod with a bino clamp works nice as it takes the weight of the binos off your hands but also allows easy pivot point for panning surrounding terrain.
A little backpacking chair is handy and as little as 1 pound. However, in that wet mossy ground, the chair legs sink in on the back because the foot is so low profile. You’ll probably want something to put under the chair feet. Ask me how I know
