I’m looking to get a chronograph. I have no experienced with one. Does anyone have suggestions for one they like for the price and how well it works? Thanks
I have the magneto speed v3 and it works great they also off a cheaper version call the spotter that works just as good the v3 but doesn’t have quite as many bells a whistles
I use the Caldwell G2. It works well for me. The app can be a little quirky but it does work fine on my android.
I don’t like the Lab radar because the top speed is 3900 fps. While that covers most rifle cartridges, it wont work with some loads for my 22-250 or 220 Swift and several others. With the new trend in lighter copper bullets you can load a 30-06 to exceed the lab radars upper limit.
I chose not to get the magneto speed after I watched a video showing how the grouping changed with the magnetospeed attached to the barrel. I’m not sure if that is common or not but I decided for me I didn’t want to attach anything to the rifle to measure the speed.
Fx outdoors is sending me a new model that promises to be top of the line above the labradar. Gonna be $999 so pretty pricey.
I have both the magneeto speed and the caldwell. I use the caldwell most of the time for the reasons you mention the magneeto either changes the group or point of impact to some degree. Some company makes a mount thats basically a rod that comes off a bipod that you can mount the unit to. I might try it. The magneeto has less errors and works regardless of conditions so i use it when i have to get m/v data.
I use the Labradar. I used to have an old Caldwell that worked okay. I upgraded to a Magneto Speed, but it didn’t work with a suppressor and I didn’t like it hanging on my barrel. The Labradar sucked in the beginning. It had a really hard time triggering so I designed and 3D printed a mechanical trigger that uses the recoil. I also put a red dot on it to help aim. In the past 2 weeks I’ve gone shooting twice, about 120 rounds, and it didn’t trigger for only 2 of them. I’m very happy with it now but wouldn’t recommend it with out a recoil trigger.
