Looking for advise from Jim, since he has sons about the same age as my grand daughter. She is 13, tall and mature for her age, 5ā5" 115 pounds. I am wanting to get her a 6.5 CM. I am thinking maybe the new Fierce Carbon Mini Rogue w/ 20" barrel and 6.1 pounds. We hunt in Texas and she could shoot most anything here with that rifle. Or I like Chassis rifles and I know you and your boys love the Sig Cross in 6.5CM.
What are your thoughts. If later she needs something bigger I have the 7prc, 6.5prc, and .308.
Iām 5ā6ā and I am a huge fan of chassis now (as well as the modular Savage Accufit). If you have a chassis, Iād measure her length of pull on that since you can set her on it and adjust, then look to see if the Rogue mini and/or the Cross fit.
Mine is 12 7/8ā and I checked on the cross, it will work for me.
Both the cross and the Fierce Rogue are great guns. I should point out that I hear a lot of QC issues with Fierce. Usually they are great but sometimes they ship out a lemon. Not saying not to pick it, but just be aware of that. But I like Fierce.
The cross would be an excellent fit as well.
I say go with the cross and spend the rest of the budget on a suppressor. The quieter guns do more to reduce flinch than recoil itself in my experience.
After my fiasco with the Bergara MGLite, John Mogle assured me I would have no issues with the Mountain Reaper. So far I have not been disappointed and would definitely hold him to it.
