Gun cabinet vs. safe

Looking for a good recommendation for “bedside” closet/locker/cabinet. Doesn’t have to be big. Keeping a 22 for pest control, a shotgun, and an AR in there. I have a big (Liberty) gun safe in the basement, but this would not need to be heavy like that, just needs to be quick access (e.g., fingerprint, etc.) and doesn’t even have to be fire rated or anything. A place for a pistol (even just a door holster) would be nice feature too. Thanks in advance!

This is “pest control” in South Alabama. We don’t dial 911.

that’s pretty much what I have now, just leaned up against side of nightstand, with a carry pistol in the drawer; wife is bugging me to lock this stuff up as we’re adding littles, etc.

I built me one of these. Not super secure, but it looks nice. I don’t think it counts as a bedside item, but I wouldn’t mind it by my bed.

I’m looking for someone to build me one of these.

That is a great look. Is there a cabinet behind it to hold the goods?

Pat, that is a good idea and application for an extra or unassuming location to stash a couple of long guns and handguns. Not an overly complicated design, basic chest build with a side panel. I like pieces that are multi functional like this. I have been toying with an idea of a 9’ grandfather style clock with a circular Bankers style head where the case interior would be a cavity to handle multiple long guns. Not many folks would ever think to look inside a clock for a weapons stash.

Maybe something like this for the bedroom if you only want to keep a handgun, cash, coins, etc. Bottom of shelf drops down when it is unlocked with the swipe of a magnet. In the second photo you can see there is a strut on the left side so it doesn’t just fall open.
