Gun suggestions?

I’m looking for a gun 850$ or under for elk and whitetail in 300 win mag and with the ability to shoot accurately to 500yards.

My dad has the Ruger American Go Wild edition in 300 win mag and says it’s great but are there any other options that I might not know of?

If the Ruger American Go Wild edition is the best option, I have no problem with that and I’ll go with that. Just looking for some other options. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a fun decision.

I would definitely skip the Go Wild. The newer Ruger American Gen 2 is much better and cheaper.

You could also look at a Tikka T3x which I love in lighter cartridges, but has too much muzzle flip in the heavier cartridges.

A Bergara Ridge could also be on the menu but I’m not sure it’s an improvement over the Ruger.

I’ll check those out thanks

I bought my last rifle from Scopelist.com. They have the Bergara Sierra for $888 before tax:

Worth a look.

I just inherited a bunch of guns from my father. One was a 6.5 prc Go wild. Brand new - not scoped and never shot. Got brass, bullets, dies, and loaded ammo with it. My question is should I sell that and replace with a gen 2? This is not one of the guns that come with sentimental value.

I think the Gen 2 is a better gun mostly in the feeding. I’d shoot the go wild and see if it feeds 100% for you before selling it.

My Gen 1 has fed super reliably, and never had an issue. It probably depends on how well that particular rifle feeds.

I looked at the Tikka T3X lite in 300 win mag and it seems good but I can’t seem to find anything on if it has a threaded muzzle. If it doesn’t that’s fine I’m not to worried about muzzle flip but I know if I can put a muzzle break on it I will.

Depends on the finish… if it has veil in its name it has a threaded barrel and a price tag over $1400.

This one looks like it comes with a muzzle thread option:

Is that from Tikka’s website?

Keep in mind many of the things that have on their website are not imported into the United states. A couple of years ago I was looking for a 7-mm-08 with a threaded barrel and saw several nice options on the Tikka website but absolutely none of them are imported into the United States.

Yep, from Tikka’s website. Good callout. I just assumed if it was on their website that it would also be available for purchase in the US. We are spoiled to have most rifles available to us here in the US. I like it that way.

Are you sold on a 300 Win Mag? I’ve got a Tikka T3X Superlite in 7mm Rem Mag and it is one of my favorite rifles. I also own a Ruger American and I would take the Tikka all day. The action is incredible! In fact, it’s better than my 3,500 dollar rifle. Plus, you can buy a 10 dollar trigger spring that makes the trigger so nice. My buddy owned the same rifle in 300WM and sold it. It’s such a light rifle and extremely difficult to shoot in 300WM. If you’re open to it, I’d consider getting a 7MM cartridge. You’ll still be able to take any game in the U.S. plus less recoil. Just my two cents.

The Roughtech variety also has a threaded barrel and comes with a brake, but the retail is $1,099.

I’ll check it out thanks :+1:t3:

I think my final decision is the Tikka T3X lite in 300 win mag with the Arken EPL-4 6-24X50 FFP. I’ve looked at other gun options and didn’t like them as much as the Tikka while still using 300 win mag. I will update how it feels when I get the gun and scope. If anyone has knowledge about that scope I should know I’d love to hear about it

I have the EPL 4-16x44 for the past 6 months or so and I like it a lot. I haven’t used it a TON, but it’s worked great for everything I have done with it. I would certainly recommend it. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.
