Hammer vs Barnes

Has anyone compared the Hammer bullets against Barnes TTSX/TSX bullets? The Hammer bullets are considerably more expensive but seem to give great performance. But is it better than what a Barnes can provide. I am particularly looking the 6.5CM and 25-06. I guess to throw another one in is what about Lehigh Defense bullets? I haven’t found any of them to try.
Thanks for your input

I haven’t given Hammer much of a try, but you nailed the reason. $1/bullet is just way too high for the volume I shoot.

I was hoping to get some experience with this this hunting season. I created a load using 143 hammers in a 280 Ackley.

But my hunting season plans have absolutely disintegrated. All the invitations I was promised fell through.

I’ve always been impressed with the performance of Barnes. Yes sometimes the animal runs, but it’s always left a great Blood Trail.

You would think my 6.8 Western Fierce Carbon Rival and Hammer Bullets were soulmates.

I’ve tried pretty much every .277 projectile and nothing came close to the accuracy and velocity. The only one that was somewhat close was the also pricey Nosler Accubond Long Range. But even then, I wasn’t hitting 3,050fps and consistent half-MOA out of a 22" barrel like I do with the Hammer’s.

I’m starting to see the same type of results as I develop a load for my 300PRC. For copper mono’s they’re hard to beat. The only negative is the price…and it’s a big negative.

How has the terminal performance been?

So far so good. I took it on my Elk hunt this past October in Utah and took a Bull Elk. One shot at 534 yards, high shoulder. He went about 10 to 15 yards, wobbled for about 5 seconds then tipped over. This was the 160 grain HHT.

What cartridge? Know how fast the bullet was traveling at that distance?

This was for the 6.8 western. I was using the Hammer HHT 160 grain tipped. N570 powder and at 500 the velocity was roughly 2,300+ fps. Range card below with the data.

I was at sportmans today and barnes lrx 150 gr 7mm - $48 per 50 so right at $1 a bullet as well.
