My next build will be for the NRL heavy class (under 16Lb’s). This will be a premium build using an MDT chassis and proof research barrel. I’m looking for suggestions on which brand and type of material for the action. The fancy titanium and aluminum actions caught my eye but it seems like a stainless steel action would be much more wear resistant, and stronger. Is it hard to make weight with a steel action? Any suggestions appreciated
If I were building for NRL heavy, I’d look at a Bartlein or proof steel barrel prefit for an Impact or Terminus action in 6.5 Creedmoor. Those actions are a bit chunkier than a Defiance to help give you more weight, are very reliable, and pretty much everyone makes a prefit for them.
If you call Impact and say you want an action and a Bartlein prefit barrel, they usually have them in stock for people also getting an action and they’ll torque your barrel on for you. Cannot question the accuracy of that setup. All the top pros use them.
