(1) What make/model of rifle do you have
(2) Score it 1 (terrible) through 10 (awesome) on if you’d recommend it to a friend. We can’t use your comment if you don’t give a specific score.
(3) What’s one thing you wish were different about the rifle?
Rifle 1
Bergara Squared Crest Carbon 7PRC
Score 8.5
I have in a chassis as the one thing I would change about would be an adjustable stock (lop and comb)
100% would recommend for experienced shooter.
Rifle 2
Aero Solus in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Score 9
Also in a chassis. Only thing bad about it is the comms from Aero. Not my experience, but it’s a thing. Its got great balance and fit and finish is amazing for the price. Very accurate. But, because of CS I would not recommend.
Rifle 3
Savage 110 Highcountry in 243
Score 9.5
Doesn’t matter what it’s in, Accustock or chassis, it is a sub .5 moa gun. The Accustock isn’t super durable. Would recommend 10/10.
8/10 with Leverevolution ammo and a scope made for that ammo and caliber with dead drop reticles at 200 and 300 yards.
My only complaint is that sometimes with the Hornady ammo there’s a feed issue. I haven’t needed a follow up shot, but the lever makes it ready when needed, unless I try to baby it. That’s when it’s prone to jam.
Otherwise, for hunting (deer) in the thick woods in eastern Oklahoma, it can’t be beat. It’s the right size, knocks anything down, and I’ve taken deer out past 200 yards with it. It carries well, shoulders quickly, and is reliable.
I love options, but if I only had one option, that would be it.
#1 Tikka T3x superlight 6.5prc, score 9.0, i wish it had a better stock.
#2 CVA Cascade XT 6.5prc, score 7, i wish it wasn’t so heavy 11.25 lbs kitted out hard to pack all day hunting at 62yrs old
#3 CVA Cascade 300WM score 8.0, i wish it had an adjustable cheek riser.
#4 Ruger Guide Gun. .375 ruger. Score 6. What would i change the laminated stock mine sucked it adhered to the action near the recoil lug. When i pulled the action a big chunk of the stock broke off. I put it in a Bell & Carlson stock. Ruger customer service is bad I contacted them and sent photos and asked for a new stock (so i had it) they wanted me to send the rifle in I told them i would fit and bed the action myself. End of story we drew a line in the sand. Last Ruger I will ever purchase.
Tikka T3X stainless super varmint in .223 (mdt xrs enclose forend stock)
Score 8/10
Barrel is too heavy for a .223, the accuracy is nice in long strings of fire but fluting to cut the weight and improve cooling would be nice
Bergara premier approach in 6.5 Creedmore.
Score 8/10
The stock is very basic needs adjustable comb and length of pull plus at least arca for tripod and bipod. But I bought the gun new cheaper than a barreled action so shouldn’t complain
I really like the CF stock and barrel. It’s light weight and probably the most accurate rifle that I own. Very mild recoil and will do almost anything I need. The only thing I would change is add an adjustable cheek piece. I would recommend it for everything I have hunted in my life except for Coastal Brown Bear. I would also recommend it to anyone 100%!!!
Rifle 2
Aero Solus in 6.5 Creedmoor
Score 9.25
The rifle is in a KRG Bravo stock. Very accurate and soft shooting. Everything is adjustable and it shoots my reloads very consistently. I have several AR platform rifles from Aero Precision and I have had zero problems with any of them. They are based in Washington state and the politics there have put them in a bind. I have rumors that they are looking for a place to move their operations, but until they actually do something it is likely just rumors. I would recommend them especially if you could find one used, but I would be VERY hesitant to order a new one due to the problems with Customer Service that have been addressed here.
Rifle 3
Semi-custom Howa 1500 Mini Action in 300 Blackout
Score 8.5
I found that I’m getting to old to carry a heavy rifle up and down the mountains here in SE Alaska and most of my shots are inside of 200 yards so I ordered a barreled action from Brownell’s. I then ordered a custom Pendleton Carbon Fiber stock from Wayne York at Oregunsmithing. He laid the stock and made it perfectly for me! LOP and cheek height were measured and the color is amazing!!! 1 inch groups at 200 yards shooting Barnes 110 grain TTSX never gets old AND it is a 6.5 pound rifle. I would 100% recommend the rifle and Wayne.
Springfield Redline in .308 and 16in barrel. Very compact and a pretty nice shooter. I’d rate it a 9 overall. The only thing I’d change is that it has sling studs and the tend to get in the way. Oh and I did put a backfire recoil pad on it as my only modification.
Fierce Mountain Reaper in 300 Win Mag 9 out 10 the actions not a Tikka, or it would have scored 10. 300 win Mag might not be sexy but it was money in Africa on plains game on shots ranging from 225 to 375 7 animals with the exception one all went down with 1 shot
I’ve owned this gun for 3 years and it hasn’t failed me shoots right at inch group with Backfire recoil pad and Silenerco Scythe with recoil x break. For white tail I shoot 160 grain Hornady whitetail for lighter recoil and I used the 178 Grain Precision Hunter in Africa glad I got a Good one from Fierce The Mountain Reaper is a a Keeper
10 - this is by far my favorite rifle, and the one I grab most of the time. Light weight, great dear rifle, fun to shoot at the range. Shoots sub .5 moa w multiple factory loads, feeds perfect
I wouldnt change anything with this one
RIFLE 2:
Fierce Mtn Reaper - 7mm mag
8 - Awesome rifle, I just personally go back and forth on whether or not I really like the chassis. It’s a bit chunky and has some rattles.
I think I would prefer it to be in a stock, preferably something like the rival or peak 44 bastion.
RIFLE 3:
Tikka t3x Roughtec - .308
8.5 - overall awesome rifle for the money. I wish they had more options for barrel length. Really great action, and shoots several loads very well. The stock on these is a real buzz kill. I replaced mine with a pure precision, but at that point, youre into the rifle for $2k, which feels like a lot for a tikka; however, they run flawlessly every single time!
Only thing I would and do change, is the stock. Shorter barrel options would be nice, but not a must
single shot suppressed 6.5 creed with custom open sights for the restricted rifle hunt in Utah. I built it last year right before the rifle hunt and 3 of my siblings were able to kill deer with it from 80-300 yards with one shot each…. Kinda… that’s a long story for one of them
Score-9. I’m scoring it high because out of all the open sight options there are available this thing outperforms them in every scenario.
For what the gun is and how much it costs I wouldn’t change anything.
I’ve used it on a couple spike elk hunts and had issues with the bolt opening while going through brush. I believe they fixed it on the gen 2. Being a 30-06 makes it not fun to just go shoot and if I’m hunting elk I want something that will reach out further.
Score 9. I haven’t tested the accuracy yet but if it’s not good I’ll just throw a new barrel on it or a stock or a trigger. It’s a rem 700 so I can do whatever I want to it.
I wish I came with a better trigger but you can’t complain with all the upgrades out there to fix that.
7–I’m scoring it lower right now but the action on this rifle has holes taped in the side of it to mount an adjustable peep sight and I’m turning the barrel on my lathe down at the front so it doesn’t have a taper to install a custom mount for a globe sight to be able to hunt the restricted rifle hunt. If it works as planed it will be getting a higher score for the open sight class.
A new stock would make it much better somewhere along the way it got a stock out on it that was made for a truck axle barrel so now with a lighter contour barrel it looks like it skipped leg day .
seekins ph3 7prc. 9/10 would recommend. Wish it had a better muzzle brake out of the box, and easier way to adjust adjustable stock ( you can adjust it but it can be a pain in the ass sometimes)
Bergara barreled action in 300prc, AG composite stock. 8/10 would recommend. Wish it had shorter bolt throw, and AG composite had the ability to change butt pads (factory ag buttpad is not great for a 300 recoil imo)
Bergara wildnerness 6.5prc. 8/10 would reccomend. Shoots great for the price. Wish it had shorter bolt throw.
Oh man, this is going to be a spicy video. I read through the comments here and YouTube. Some seem like fair assessments but a lot of others I’m like, “…are we talking about the same rifle…?”
I see a lot of others commenting with Bergara, Tikka, etc. so I’ll throw a different one out there:
Ruger Hawkeye (M77) in .308
This is actually a great gun. Mauser style action / controlled round feed. Light enough to carry (~6.5 lbs. or so w/o scope, about 8 lbs. or so with), and beautiful to boot. Well, if you are into the more traditional walnut stock/stainless steel finish anyway. The action isn’t “smooth” like a Tikka or Bergara, but it does feed and extract 100% of the time reliably. Other than maybe an action job to slick it up a bit, I wouldn’t change anything. 10/10.
