Hog Hunting with AR

I was pursuing the Hornady website and noted they have a “Hornady Black” product line “optimized” for suppressed & unsupressed semi-auto rifles. The .308 Win versions only use A-Max bullets. While AR-10 would be equally good for a passel of hogs, I don’t think I’d select the A-Max bullet. So…
(a) I’m wondering if folks out there who use ARs (10 or 15, or other semi-auto) for hunting find they generally cycle reliably with most any factory ammo or is “optimized” ammo like Horandy Black actually useful?
(b) And those who use an AR or other semi-auto for hogs (or coyotes or other pests), do you buy premium ammo or budget ammo (for volume shooting)?

Took a hog with Hornady Black this year. I mean, it’s headshots, with .308, at distances under 100 yards (and often under 50) typically where I hunt so I guess it doesn’t really matter what the bullet construction is at that point. I find that Hornady Black has been affordable for plinking at the range too. Funny enough in my PSA the Black actually groups better too than other ammunition, even the Federal Premium Gold Medal stuff, which in other guns I own usually always outperforms. I have a Tikka CTR and a Ruger GSR that prefers the Federal Premium, but the PSA-10 just loves Black.

thanks for the reply. I was a little confused by the info on the Hornady website b/c they made it seem like it’s target ammo that might also be good for coyotes / varmints. glad to know it shoots well, cycles well, and gets the job done on larger, tougher game.

I have a Ruger SFAR 16” 308 and it loves 150 gr Remington Core-Lokt. I reliably get sub MOA. I zero it at 50 yds and have taken two hogs with it so far this year, both head shots at 50 yds.
