I just browsed the 2023 Howa (Legacy Sports) catalog and noticed they have some insanely lightweight rifles. Their “Superlite” model is less than 4.5 lbs… which is even lighter than the Kimber (and it’s threaded, and it’s cheap too). Has anyone had a chance to actually fire one of these? Is 4.5 lbs. “too light”? I normally only see that weight in like a youth model 22. The carbon stalker looks more “normal” at around 6.3 lbs. in the short action cartridges (and it’s priced around 900-1,000). I suspect that weight feels more natural, but curious if anyone has played with the lighter one and can share their experience/notes on it.
I played with one in a store. Barrel contour is the skinniest I’ve ever seen and recoil pad is only about thr thickness of two layers of cardboard.
It’d be fun for a little 6 creed or something like that, but the weight savings IS coming at a cost.
