How much torque does it take to remove a tikka action from its original barrel?

Trying to re barrel a tikka. Its on there hard! How much torque does it take to remove the action?

I use a 4’ breaker bar to get Tikka barrels off. It’s hard, but this bar can kinda get anything off. Just gotta be careful to not bend the action in the process.

In the Tikka factory, it’s a hydraulic machine that torques them on.

The sides of a tikka action are square so you can take an action wrench like this and flip over the top part so it’s flat.

I would definitely recommend using tape or something to protect the action bc it will mar the outside of the action otherwise. It won’t cause functional damage though. Tikka action strong like bull. The barrel should be in some sort of vice. Protect it with tape, paper or leather or whatever if you don’t want it marred. If you can’t get it using just the wrench, add some kind of pipe. I used the metal pipe handle from my car jack to extend the moment arm and thus give more torque. If that doesn’t work, take a two pound hammer and smack the action handle or pipe. Sometimes it just needs that jolt to break it loose. I’ve done this a few times and have had success at some point along this approach. I also spray where the barrel meets the action with kroil or some kind of penetrating lubricant like a day before to let it percolate. Not sure it does much but those suckers are on there tight so any little bit helps. When you put the new barrel on, most prefit barrels require around 80-100 ft lb so you should be fine using an inside the action wrench for torquing on the new barrel, but I wouldn’t try to take off the factory barrel with the inside the action wrench. Godspeed.

I’ve only done one of them, so with that in mind

I used the wrench that Brendan showed above. By itself and with about a 2 ft bar nothing happened. But between adding heat with a heat gun, not a torch and using a hammer it came off. It was the shock that did it. Without the hammer and even with the heat gun I could put all of my entire body weight against it and nothing was happening. But one good Hammer blow and it popped off
