I am thinking about building a rifle using the Howa 1500 barreled action. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this?

I have put together a Howa before from Brownell’s. I didn’t end up keeping it though (nothing really wrong with the gun I just had to make some room for other guns–the obsession has almost become unmanageable). I have a Weatherby Vanguard now, which is the same action but they put their own finish on it. This is one of the cheapest ways to get a really nice 7 PRC --for example the new Vanguard Obsidian (which has just a plain black synthetic stock, but it is nice and rigid, and the barrel is threaded too!)
I picked one up for 500 bones last weekend at a local gun shop, haven’t even sighted it in yet. At this price point, it’s hard to think of a better option. If I remember right when I last built a 1500 from Brownell’s, I spent almost that much just on the barreled action, without the stock. But you may have other options too like going with a heavier barrel profile or whatever. This Weatherby rifle is a sporter profile, threaded 1/2x28, whereas the heavier contours will come in the more standard 5/8x24. Which you might want (it’s a trade-off because of course that will make the gun heavier).
Thanks. I did pick up a 1500 7mm prc for less than $600. Just waiting for some ammo, and we will hit the range and test it out.
