In Depth Cleaning

Hey Jim,

Was thinking it would be cool to see an in depth video by you of your process for cleaning rifles. I’d love to hear your thoughts on (1) how often you clean, (2) barrel break-in, (3) cleaning copper and carbon, (4)what equipment you use, etc.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Funny you would mention that @Jordanl4. I was thinking about same thing today. As a corollary, I was wondering if a bore guide is really necessary.

Jim, I seem to remember you saying once your not big on barrel break-in processes, but don’t want to put words in your mouth.

I am always wondering what type of solvent remover to use for copper and lead, how long to leave each, and what oil to use on the action to prevent dirt gumming up everything when out in the field.

Right on. I’ve heard a bore guide is imperative to cleaning the action clean while cleaning the barrel. I’d be curious to get Jim’s thoughts as well on this.

Agreed! I’ve always been nervous to clean copper out of my barrels because I don’t want to screw it up and ruin my barrel.

Added to my list to record it in two weeks. I’ll be out of town before then.

Great suggestion.
