As I posted previously my 13 yo grand daughter wants to shoot a deer this year. I am going to buy her a Sig Cross 6.5cm based on Jim’s experience and his son’s shoot it on a regular basis. What scope do you have on your Cross. Because the weight of the Cross is light it would be nice to keep the scope light. However all my deer stands have Arca Rail Balls mounts on tripods so weight is not really critical. I do have a Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50 or an Arken EPL 6-24x50 I could put on it.
My plan is to start her on feral hogs which I have an abundance of. If she doesn’t have a problem shooting Miss Piggy then we will move up to a deer.
So Jim has had me sold on the Sig Cross, and I had been looking for a Sig Cross 6.5cm for my granddaughter. I was hoping Cabela’s / Bass Pro would do their 10% of for members with a Cabela’s credit card, plus an extra 5% for LEO/Veterans. I was killing time in Scheel’s and a salesman who always waits on me asks what I am looking for. I told him a Sig Cross 6.5cm he said it was my lucky day, he had just bought a like new Sig Cross 6.5cm. I asked “How Much” he replied “$1,100.00” I said “I’ll take it”. I was going to put a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 on it but I sure like the Burris Veracity PH 4-20x50, since I already have 3 what’s one more. I also had a Area 419 Hellfire Self-Timing muzzle brake in 6.5 caliber which is supposed to reduce recoil by 52%. Should work well for my 13 year old granddaughter.
So I got my reloading set up based on what you recommended, and did 20 rounds of 6.5prc this weekend. I was using H1000 with Hornady 143gr ELDX. Based on the Hornady manual I did 5 rounds of each of the first 4 powder loads. All 4 were around 1moa so was ok for my first reloads. Group 5 shot averages were 2696.9, 2842.4, 2961.3, and 3024.0.
My question based on your CommyTube reviews of the Sig Cross 6.5cm you said you had a pretty generic 6.5cm load that worked well with the Sig. Do you publish these loads, or are they available anywhere?
