Just curious if folks who are generally using factory ammo
have a favorite brand for everything;
if it depends on the firearm (e.g., "I feed the my 7mm-08 anything from Brand X but my 7PRC will only shoot Brand A load B, and while I plink with whatever’s cheapest with my 1911 I only buy Brand M load N for serious shooting);
if you just buy the best priced ammo on any given day (quality suited to task, e.g., Remington Thunderbolt for plinking cans but match ammo for competition); or
other?
Mixed results almost across the board. The one exception for me has been Federal Premium Gold Medal Match–I have owned several rifles in .308 that all seem to shoot that stuff very well. But for example, I have a Henry Long Ranger that prefers–get this–Winchester Power Point. I mean, really? It’s super cheap ammo, but it doesn’t seem to ever produce good groups in any of the other guns I own, so go figure. Same with Remington Core Lokt–works great in my Ruger American, sucks in almost everything else I have tried it with. I have owned two Tikka’s that both love Hornady Precision Hunter, but it’s not always a tight grouper with other rifles I own, even tested a Sig Cross recently and it just wasn’t a good fit. Seems like you just never know until you test several loads.
Agree. I almost always have good results with federal premium.
I buy more Hornady than anything else because it’s plentiful and decent.
