Late night reminiscing on scopes

From the 80s and 90s I had Tascos, Simmons, Bushnell 3x9s that served the purpose. Over the last several years I have owned Swaros, Zeiss, Leupold, etc. All great glass. Two year ago I missed a shot opportunity on a buck as the mechanics of the scope where different than I had hunted with on a prior hunt. i duly noted that optics have different controls (clockwise vs CCW for zoom on US vs. Euro scopes). Just a personal preference, but my life became easier when I standardized on the Leupold VX5 for all of my my rifles. At $800 though some speciality retailers it is an awesome value and the custom BDC with a zero stop is a game changer, no worries about MILs or MOAs. Granted, I am not a competitive shooter, but for hunting it is a great optic. Love to hear your thoughts.

Not a bad system at all. Since I have to use so many different scopes for reviewing, I at least put a label on any scope that isn’t MOA and FFP so I don’t get mixed up.

Beware the man with one scope… :grinning:

My bro is a NF guy. I have both vortex and Leupold. I really jumped off and put a VX6 on my 7mm PRC. For me the eyebox was instant and forgiving. No hunting around for a full picture. I looked at Zeiss, Vortex Razor and NF NX8 all at the same time at Sportsmans and to me the Leupold was best. For that kind of money to me it should be good at that.

I have a bunch of scopes and imho I would chose a vx6 over anything for hunting. Never had a problem holding , zero eye box is so forgiving. Glass is ultra clear. Is it the best scope for everything? No. But for the money it’s the best scope for the average hunter.
