Let's talk wolves

Just got a call from a buddy. He and his group went up north (northern Sask) on public land to get their elk.
3 days in, they had to call it. Wolves chased them out. (Wolf season is still 3 weeks away)

There are rumors of an open season wolf hunt…

If I go, im thinking shorter barrel rifle, red dot maybe? Something efficient in thick bush where a scope just isnt going to work…

I have a tikka t3x 22-250, a tikka t3x 6.5cm, and a savage axis 30-60 that I scrapped and rebuilt, because cheap savage guns are… cheap lol

Im thinking a lever action 30-30 or something else… maybe a 243?

How do you.guys set up for wolves?
I like my toys, so even as an ex military guy, im not an irion sights fella…

Haven’t shot one though I carry a tag for N ID if I do. We have seen plenty of tracks and on trail cams. What I would use is my Ruger American Ranch suppressed in 300 BO. I don’t know what expected range is though so that might be a concern.

How about an LPVO so you can zoom out to 1 or 2 power but zoom in if it’s down a logging road or a clearing?

It helps if you have someone in your party who can shoot at longer distances, say 600+ yards. Wolves are very hard to hunt till you get a deer or elk down. Then them and bears get real chummy. Ar15/10 are good, but a distance shooter is a bonus.
