Long range whitetail. Suggestions please.
I am landowner and zoned in Kentucky with no limit on antlerless whitetail.
I do not hunt from a stand or a blind. I shoot(not hunt) from my sidewalk from the prone position-sandbagged. My gun sits covered all day just a few feet away from me on the bags ready.
Why? Population control. I donate all harvested deer to hunters for the hungry in Kentucky.
I am looking for a set up that I can ethically venture past 400. I practice all year and can hold sub MOA. I only shoot deer in Optimal conditions.
I have no reason to shoot in a 25 mph cross wind. I can rangefind any deer so I have no guess work. Scope dope isn’t an issue.
What’s the Gun?
What’s the caliber?
What’s the scope?
Thank you Jim for the platform!!!
I’m undecided on that actually. 2k-3k $ range most likely. 6…5 prc is interesting.
The fierce is a little out there but a dream maker set up for sure.
I think the Tikka and Bergaras in the world work. I haven’t researched much in a fierce but I am a huge fan of a waypoint and your reviews of that rifle. I could be forced with a slight arm twist. [quote=“Coyote682, post:1, topic:705, full:true”]

I do like a chassis stock, heavy isn’t an issue. Length of barrel isn’t an issue.
Are larger caliber’s unnecessary for this situation? Trade offs?
I’m not worried about recoil.
I don’t marathon shoot on a given day, but I shoot consistently 2-3 per week. And stop before a flinch is created. Lol.

I personally like the in the Rem in 7mm is a bit over kill for white tails but amazing bullet selection and you can reach out as far as you can shoot, with ethical knock down. I got to spend 5 day with a top shooter and powder developer. He stated something that stuck with me. Purchases a entry level long range gun and you will always have a good action you can throw another high quality barrel on after you learn to shoot (which should take about 1 barrel life $300) invest your money in Bedding, Trigger, Rings, and mostly of all scope. Buy top quality ammo or for more accuracy reload you own to sub 10 S.D.
