Long range shotting target

I am wanting to make one of these. Planning on shooting it with a 7prc amd 300prc plus other similar to smaller loads. What thickness and does metal type help with the gong sound. Im sure the way you hang it effects the noise.

Edited. Planning on shooting 400 to 1000 yards

depends on range? I imagine at 100 yds you get holes for those for 3/8 and less thickness? Particularly for the larger plated that resists swinging as easily. I do not know if the internet has steel thickness charts for energies and bullet construction?

500 to 1000 yards

envious to have that shooting distance I get 400 max where I can go.

Powerline at my deer lease and also a friend that lives by his boss that has 500 acres of cow pastures

I got this info from www.shootingtargets7.com where they sell the Know Your Limits (KYL) target set:

Thank you, this was helpful. I am normally the google master and it seems that this place might be my next search engine…i would probably tend to believe more of what i read here

I think 3/8” ar500 will be fine for what you’re doing. You may get some pitting, but I don’t think you’ll be blasting holes in the plates even with 300 prc at 400 yards. My two cents.
