I am looking for a good caliber and rifle for around $1500. I already have a browning hells canyon 7mag and a bergara B14 in 7mm-08. I was thinking about a 300prc. I live in New Mexico and want something that would be good for Oryx hunting. I know the 7mag would do the trick but would like something with more nock down power. I was kicking around a 6.5prc as well but I know that won’t be a great round for oryx. I know people that have taken oryx with them but with having a 7mag already, I feel like that would be the rifle to take if I end up with a 6.5prc. What would you all recommend? Thank you
I’d go with the Bergara Squared Crest or Sako S20. I’m not sure which PRC’s they offer, but probably both have 300 Win Mag if you want a 30 caliber bullet.
thank you, I will start looking into those
Bergara Crest or Tikka Roughtech Ember in 300 Win Mag.
I’ve only once hunted Oryx (gemsbuck) but didn’t find it particularly hard to kill.
Thank you. I think I’ll go with the 300 win mag.
Also consider SAKO S20 (mwoolsey also mentioned it). It comes in 9+ different calibers (I have the 300WM) and it retails around $1500. But you can get it for less when on sale. It also has interchangeable stock between “hunting” and “precision.” You have to pay for the second one if you wish to have both. Go look on gunbroker.
The gain you will get from a 7mag vs 300 win is how do you say it…it depends:) Always nice to get a new gun though!
EuroOptic is running a sale on the Sako S20 in 300WM right now. 24" Barrel for $999
Ill have to check that out, that Sako S20 looks like a nice setup
Picking up my new Bergara B14 Squared Crest Carbon in 6.5 PRC this weekend and I am pumped!
300 WM fanboy. You cannot go wrong. As for brand not sure. I would say tikka but depends on your recoil sensitivity but get a backstop pad and then add the left over $500 into optics. I use 165 gr Barnes for pronghorn, deer, elk. No oryx yet.
That is where I bought mine. Great customer service I might add.
I just remembered another one that just came out and Jim also had it. It is the Beretta BRX1. It retails for $1,599, but if you go to “gunzonedeals” and request a quote on the specific rifle they will email you their best price and a 24-hour limit or expiration on it. Try them out.
