Mammoth Lakes, CA Vacation

I was going to drop these pictures in my last post on my 300 WSM handload results, but that post was long enough. For any who are not familiar with the Mammoth Lakes region it is in the eastern Sierra near the Nevada border. Beautiful country. In fact, the eastern Sierra are one of my favorite places in California! While we were there, I also visited Mono Lake, which is the other interior salt lake, this one at the western edge of the Great Basin. Mono Lake is a little north of Mammoth. I saw a breeding pair of Osprey at the lake who are nesting on one of the tufa limestone formations.

So cool. Haven’t made my way over there yet. Was it crowded? Gorgeous mountains.

I definitely recommend, if you get a chance to come out to California. I think the eastern Sierra are even more gorgeous than the western slopes. This past week it wasn’t crowded at all. We were speculating that because it was the week before the holiday week there were fewer people. The population is around 7,000, but I’ve heard during the winter there can be as many as 40,000 people with the skiers.

You actually have to “hunt” there. I recall not be very successful. Consequently, I spent most of my time fishing!
