Marlin 336 Scope

I received my Mom’s 1953 Marlin 336 that she used in Idaho where she and Dad deer hunted. It has a 1950’s Weaver scope on it that needs to be improved on. I have a Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40mm but that doesn’t seem right for a lever action.

So now I am looking at something like a Vortex Venom 1-6x24mm. Considering that any deer will be under 150 yards it doesn’t need a lot of magnification. Thoughts?

Thanks
Ron

Ironically, I was looking at scope for a lever action today and it seems to me that a LVPO is ideal. I was looking for ones that have exposed turrets, not capped and I liked these:
Athlon

Arken

and

Leupold

The Leupold is the lightest by a few ounces but the others are under $400. If you like the Athlon, you should see if Jim can get it for you.

I had not looked at the Athlon or Arken. I’ll have to do some research as I am not as familiar with those.

Thanks

Don’t have a ton of experience with lever actions, but the one time I did put a scope on one, and I noticed the same thing with my Ruger number ones, is that eye relief is one of, if not the most important factor to consider.

Most LVPOs should work. Red dots are even better. In terms of regular Scopes just look for something with a lot of eye relief. Trijicon typically has more eye relief than other manufacturers.

If someone still makes "scout scopes ", they should work also

I literally scoped my lever gun (video upcoming) today with an Athlon Helos LPVO and decided we need to carry it in Backfire shop. I’ve run it on my AR’s for a couple years and love it.

Jim, I’ve read reviews on various sites where people have trashed the Helos turrets. Say that they are Athlon mushy and spongy. Any experience with this issue on the Helos? I would say not since you still have it.
Thanks

Haven’t seen that at all. I love the turrets.

Jim, thank you. I’ll take a closer look. If you like it I’ll probably have to try one out.
