Anyone have any experience with Maven optics? I hear great things, but I haven’t had my hands on them.
I have an RS 1.2 with the Mil reticle. This is my first FFP and first mil scope I’ve used. My other experience has mostly been with Leupold and Zeiss.
Put frankly, I love the reticle. To me, it’s one of the best designed reticles on the market. Clean, easy to use, easy to see. I think it will work well for most.
Glass is good, but not great. I think it’s an area they could upgrade in the future. It’s not bad by any means, I just think some of the big boy manufacturers are still a step ahead on quality.
I thought it was fairly easy to adjust, but It does need one of those tiny Allen wrenches. Would like to see tool-less option in the future.
I don’t like the illuminated reticle. It’s just not built to be brain dead easy yet. The illumination itself works great, but unlike a Leupold where I just push the side button in, I have to stop and think how to turn it on every time. Last thing I want to be doing when I’m going to take a shot.
Leupold I think still has everyone beat for eye relief, but it’s getting closer. It’s probably a step below Leupold, but nothing crazy. I would say it’s on par with most other scopes. Probably somewhere between Nightforce and Leupold.
Overall I really like it for the money. Not as expensive as Nightforce and for this particular scope model, I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck. Passes the Rokslide drop tests if that matters to you. There’s small quality of life changes I would prefer, but I would buy one again. My 22 CM is almost done and I’ll likely wait to see if they come out with an updated version.
I also have a pair of their C1 10x42 binoculars. I think if you just want a pair of binoculars at a decent price, they can’t be beat by anything under $1,000. I personally want to move onto binoculars with a built in range finder for convenience, but the Mavens have been good to me. No complaints.
I have a couple Mavens. Just don’t see what the fuss is all about with them. My Maven costs $1400ish and I have some $300 scopes with better glass. Really not good. Also don’t love the reticle design as it’s too fat for my liking.
Lots of personal preference with scopes but that’s my two cents.
Ok good to know. Thank you.
I know a big part of the appeal to me was the idea that the scope wouldn’t lose zero. I agree the glass could be improved, but never having to worry about the zero shifting after traveling, or the gun being knocked over, or just through normal use is really appealing. Like you zero it once and it’s just good to go every time after that if you don’t change loads. To me, that’s more valuable than the higher end glass that has to be zeroed multiple times or has a chance of moving. I’ve killed a lot of animals with Leupold, but I’ll be the first to say I would have to sight in my gun again every year. I haven’t had the Maven long enough to verify it won’t move, but I’ll try to remember to report my results after I’ve had it on there a year.
Now, was the moving zero because of the rings? Was it the scope? Idk, but I like the idea of this being studied long term. I know you went to the Area 419 rings and I’ll be curious what kind of difference that makes long term. I don’t think the drop test is flawless, but I can’t help but wonder why patterns are emerging with certain scopes failing. Why are the SWFA, Nightforce, Trijicon, and Maven passing every time one is sent in?
Don’t forget the biggest benefit, no christmas tree reticle! ![]()

I use vortex they work fine for hunting.
Ruger Guide gun viper hd 2-10
2 cva’s viper hd 3-15x44
Tikka viper hd 5 25x50
Ruger 10-22 crossfire ii 2-7
Viper hd 10x42 binoculars
Diamondback spotting scope
HD 3000 rangefinder
With my first responder discount i could afford the higher end optics. But i dont see the need for hunting Wa state and Ak.
Work guns, pistol deltapoint pro, rifle #1 holosun, rifle #2 aimpoint pro.
Not sure if the OP is asking about scopes or binos or spotters. I have experience with all 3.
For scopes I’ve used the rs1.2 due to the rokslide thread. I agree the #1 thing I want my scope to do is not lose zero. Everything else is a bonus. Very few scopes on the market hold zero well per the form scope test. (Really only NF, Trijicon, and this one Maven, maybe a few others). It’s a bit heavy but overall it’s good, dials well and the peace of mind is worth the weight. Switched from Swaro, don’t mind the glass.
I’ve also tried the CRS.2. Seems nice, not sure about zero holding, I imagine not great but I did see my buddy take a spill with it and it held zero. Good mid budget scope maybe?
For binos: I bought the C1 10x42. Field of view felt narrow, glass was decent, didn’t love them and sold them. I felt that my cheaper athlons Midas were similarly good.
For spotters: I’ve used their CS.1s and was impressed. I’m not too experienced with spotters but that little thing impressed me despite hearing some negative reviews. Only other spotters I’ve used have a been a few cheapies and a swaro 85mm so I don’t have anything to compare it to in that class.
Their range finders are bulky and none have a ballistic calculator so they’re uninteresting to me.
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps!
Awesome, thank you for this.
I was looking at their scopes. I have a Leupold VX5 and VX6 that I like. Getting a new rifle and wondering if I should take a shot on the Maven.
I started going with Steiner and have been blown away from glass and the complete package. You would be hard to beat this deal currently at scope list!
What kind of optics do I need to make a 228 Lapua shine?
Fat fingered that one, 338 Lapua
Hey my son has the Mavin 4 and I would not recommend it. For that price point go to eurooptic and get an open box buy on a zeiss lrp s3. So much better for the same basic cost. The eyebox is tight with a very thick reticle on the maven. Even the burris xtr3 is a better optic to my eye
