On today’s mancast on where the industry is going, bulllpups were mentioned. Question was raised on why they aren’t popular.
I’ve shot a number of semi auto BP’s, still own an AUG. The biggest knock on all of these is that their triggers suck compared to an AR or bolt gun. The large linkage distances just don’t lead to good pull characteristics.
Has that changed with modern, especially modern bolt action BP’s?
I love the Idea of a bulpup! I just have a really hard time getting behind the look of it, But you can run a long barrel and it would still feel like you have an 18 Inch barrel, Maybe we should look into getting one for the channel!
I don’t mind the looks, especially if they look like that Walther. But bad triggers are a completely different story.
But I’ve never shot a bolt BP.
I’ve kept the AUG because it’s got a 16 inch barrel, and to get an AR to the same OAL, I’ve got to SBR it and put a 12 inch barrel on it. 12 inch ARs are not particularly fun to shoot to me.
I really like the concept and the look. I’ve shot a Tavor a few times for fun, but my mind always goes to hunting practicality. I think it would be handy and maneuver well, but the trigger and the accuracy are questions I would be interested in hearing the answers to for other firearms. I’ve always found better hunting options, but it may a good utilitarian rifle. I’m sure I could kill a deer with it if I needed to.
