Im from south Louisiana, and I want to make a mule deer hunt or even an elk hunt out west. I have no idea where to begin and do not want to get scammed or stuck with some outfitter that doesn’t know what he is doing. I also dont want to break the bank on paying for this trip. I have 1 or 2 guys interested or maybe even put together a Backfire trip somewhere. Help and information and input is what i am looking for. Thank you! Im assuming this is the place where I can trust people.

That’s my friend Twinkie who is an outfitter in Utah and has been in the channel a few times. It’s a semi-guided hunt and he’ll be teaching classes and taking turns going out hunting with people some of the days and other days you’ll hunt by yourself.
Reasonable price, learning and a good chance at success. I’m gonna go to one of the weeks for sure.

I think im pushing for the first one. It would be cool to get Jim and a few of us to meet for that hunt. Im busy chasing my daughter with vball this weekend but I emailed “twinkie” and waiting for him to get back with me. Lets talk and start shooting for the first week rifle.

I went ahead and paid for Oct 13-19th. Those dates really lined up perfect for me.

There is an online tool I use called GoHunt that collects all of the western states hunting regulations, application deadlines, and specific odds for drawing a tag. They also offer a lot of training on their site for putting together a successful hunt. It is not free though and it takes time on your part to use it.
There are also some pretty interesting opportunities in Texas I discovered when looking for an Aoudad hunt. They do offer many kinds of game.
It might be worth checking it out. I have not used them yet but and am exploring a 2024 hunt possibly with them.
