Muzzle device / direct thread to Alaskan 360 on a Weatherby 308

Hey folks, I am new the community and tried searching but didn’t see any existing posts that answer my questions (please forgive me if I did miss it). I have a Weatherby Vanguard 308 and just got my Alaskan 306 out of jail. I’m struggling to find Rugged muzzle devices that fit 1/2 by 28 thread pitches so I ended up ordering a direct thread attachment to the suppressor. I am pretty new to mounting anything to my rifle and I am not sure what kind of equipment I should use (regular vise, “gun” vise, a gun bench, etc).

In terms of torquing, would I be safe in getting a regular armorers wrench and then a car socket torque? Is torquing really needed? I spoken to Rugged directly and they mentioned that the specification requires a torque but, unofficially, he said a hand tighten is probably fine. Now, I am very concerned with point of impact drift especially since this is for a hunting rifle. Thoughts?

More context, I am flying to Vegas for Tate’s Beyond hunting course and the rifle with the suppressor is too large to fit in my hard case. Ideally, I’d install a QD muzzle break and not to have to worry about re-installing on arrival.

To sum up, I am really asking about recommended equipment and whether or not it is a terrible idea to hand tighten the suppressor to the direct threaded attachment.

Sorry if my post is all over the place.

I’ve been perfectly fine with just hand tightening suppressors on rifles for some time now. Never used a torque wrench at all.

On the other hand, if you do decide to go with a QD break/hider, then you will need a torque wrench to get it set properly.

For my direct thread rifle suppressors, after usually a three shot group the thing is too darn hot. I’ve got a suppressor cover on pretty much all of them. I will place the rifle in an upright position then pull the suppressor cover off to let the suppressor cool. Every time I take that cover on or off I always do a little bit of clockwise rotation just to make certain that the suppressor hasn’t come loose.

Any suggestions on covers?

I use primarily TBAC cans, and they recommend covers by Armageddon gear. Thus that’s what I’ve been using primarily. And they seem to work nicely to me.

But there are others on this form somewhere who have used other manufacturers with good results. Wish I could tell you where to look for those posts.

Thank you!
