My hobbies and food

All of my hobbies revolve around food.
Hunting
Fishing
Clamming
Veg garden
BBQ
cooking in general
And all the money that I spend supporting those. I could buy a lifetime of food eating at the best restaurants if I sold my boat.
Anyone else have this problem? :grinning:

Can’t say that all my hobbies involve food but I do like to grill and cook.

I think a lifetime of eating at the best restaurants wouldn’t be as much fun. I wouldn’t say all my hobbies revolve around food, I like hiking, camping/backpacking, and snow skiing, but I hit a lot on your list.

Being 64 and sore knees the backpacking are days gone by. I save what legs I have left for chukar and quail hunting. So add that to the list of food hobbies - training my gsp puppy. And I agree - eating in a restaurant is not as fun but sometimes my wife and I dont agree on that - though she does love fresh halibut and ling cod.

I’m only 51 and still at the skiing and backpacking. My knees are what they used to be. I’ve never hunted chukar and quail. My upland experience is in pheasant. My oldest son and I do a duck/goose hunt every year too. GSPs are awesome dogs. I have a different german breed - gsd. He’s a great dog, maybe the best I’ve owned, but not so much for the field.

Chukar is to pheasant like sheep is to deer. I do love pheasant hunting but back in the day it was 10-15 miles in steep lava rock getting a limit of chukar. I don’t cover that nowadays but I try. And you don’t have to ask for permission to find a place to hunt. If I get two or 3 I am happy. You hardly ever run into another hunter when off the road. Hard on the dog’s feet and really wears them out.

My hobbies are my ‘other’ work…landscape/nature photography and graphics design.

The last few years, the market for images has been VERY rough (I used to bring in $3K - $4K a month with my photography; that dried up almost entirely around 2015. Hoping to reignite my photography when I publish my book). Hopefully, the challenges with photogrpahy the last few years with wildfires killing us during the summer and overyly-obnoxious weather over the winter months has made some of my winter treks too unsafe to take on.

I’ve done some graphics design work here and there over the last 25 years, some to support web development a couple decades ago and more recently, supporting my wife who is starting an online store.

Of course, my primary job can be very consuming (Cybersecurity Engineering Manager), but the challenge will always keep me interested.

That does look like some rough terrain. Where is that?

SE Oregon. SW Idaho has that as well, since they are only geopolitical lines that basalt lava flows do not respect and honor😀

I know that area. I haven’t been through there in a long time. I was raised in Sacramento. My uncle lived in Caldwell and we would visit every summer. We would hit 95 in Winnemucca and go through SE Oregon into Idaho. Last time I went I was probably 20 or 21. Made the trip with my brother.

If you eat out at the best restaurant you will not have the money to do your Hobbies and have fun!

Another food source in Oregon for the food gathering hobby.

My bro and I got 50 lbs each of packed halibut filets in the last two days. Go buy fresh halibut at costco or whereever. $20 a pound. 100 lbs of fish x 20 is $2000 of fish. Expenses were about $600. so net is $1400. Of course this does not count the depreciated cost of the boat.
We also got 10 dungeness and a couple salmon. I will be getting my omega 3 in a natural way now.
It was an awesome couple days.
