My new Sako S20 7RemMag

Pete, where are you located in Colorado? I’m living in Grand Junction right now. Sucks you missed the draw. I might finally have a chance to get a deer tag this year. Maybe!

I’m nearly 50 go to the gym but the old cardio isn’t what it was in my military days lol. I’m in Ohio but have been trying to get out west more and more. I had successful antelope hunt couple years ago. Didn’t get drawn last year. Put in for mule deer and antelope in Wyoming. But with another bad winter unlikely I will draw again. I am hopeful though. Looking forward to bringing out the new fierce. Otherwise here in Ohio we have to use straight wall cartridges. I have Henry X 45-70, but usually out with my bow. Our rifle season pretty limited

Hey Ken,
Still in the Metro Denver area (N of DIA)…but my wife & I have been looking for land/home in the mountains FAR FAR away from the stupidity of Denver!

I hear ya on cardio! Back in the day, when timed PT runs came…my Dept. Head (O-3) and I woudl race each other (we were both competitive runners)…

My calendar NOW has a couple of reminders, so I don’t flippin miss the draw for 2024. In the meantime, I will hope for something in the secodary draw (D-Day) and if I don’t get that, any remaining tags will go to the “Leftover” bin which is available for purchase Aug 4th.

Colorado has a lot of otc options right? Any insight on what might be good options for a nonresident otc for mule deer or elk? I am unfamiliar with colorado

From this page: https://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/BigGameLicenseOptions.aspx

## Over-the-Counter (OTC) Licenses

Available Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 9 am MT

For sale online, by phone (1-800-244-5613) and at sales agents around the state.

Licenses can

  • be purchased without an application,

  • provide you the flexibility to discover new units,

  • allow you to scout different habitat, and

  • potentially combine your hunt with the opportunity to hunt another species.

Some licenses for elk, pronghorn, and bear are available without needing to enter the draw(s) and are not restricted in quantity (unlimited). Find more information on over-the-counter licenses in the Big Game brochure.

OTC for deer was gone the first five minutes last year. I was able to get an elk tag but found out it was not a good area. Seems Colorado will sell a ton of tags for areas that have very few elk. Most good tags are taken the first draw. Almost all good deer tags are taken the first draw. You better have a bunch of points or go somewhere else. Worst state I have hunted so far for being able to draw a good tag or hunt a deer.

I hear ya! I have started to utilize the “reports” function of the CPW Hunting Atlas, to try and narrow down areas that have a higher percentage chance of success, should I have to rely on the OTC luck…

I got my 20MOA rail from EuroOptic. Mine is a 300WM. But checkout their sister website, Scopelist. You can bargain with them.
