In an interesting trick of coincidence, when you put out your first video last Monday taking the x-bolt2 to the range, I happened to be driving to the range myself with a brand new X bolt 2, Pro, spr in 7prc. It’s got the 20-in barrel. I’m looking to have the shortest Magnum that works well.
I’m normally not able to get to the range this much, but the past week just happened to have been good and over that time frame I have managed to put the following through the rifle
Hornady 180ELDM-20 rnds
Federal 175ELDX-26 rnds
Norma 165 Bond strike-15 rnds
Berger 175EOL by Copper Creek-15 rnds
Barnes 170TTSX-15 rnds
Barnes 160LRX-9 rnds
I still do 3-shot groups with magnum rifles
The ELDM was purely for break-in. Did not measure anything with that as I don’t intend to hunt with it.
ELDX was 7 3-shot groups with an average of 0.451 MOA, MR 0.191
Norma 5 3-shot groups with av 0.556 MR 0.281
Berger 5 3-shot groups 0.569 MR 0.233
It did not like Barnes. Best TTSX could do was 0.86MOA, everything else was significantly over 1.
Then a single 5-shot with the ELDX 0.685 MR 0.171.
I’m holding off on any further testing because I have a specific suppressor in mind for this gun, an OTB, and right now it’s on backorder and it’s no sense spending more ammo and dialing things in only to have to change them when the new can gets in.
When I watched your video today I was thinking you were going to discover something on the borescope. But yours looked pretty good compared to what I see. I looked the other day after cleaning to make sure I got all the copper out so that I could test the mono bullets and where The Junction is between the neck and where the rifling starts, is very uneven. You’ll see a perfectly normal start of rifling and then if you rotate the scope without advancing it there will suddenly be a bare area with no rifling and what looks like tooling marks or scratches running circularly, then another area of good rifling then another abnormal area again. If you get on one of those areas without rifling and then push the scope towards the muzzle, the rifling starts in that area about a quarter of an inch further down.
I was going to try to take a picture but the mirror at the end of my scope broke today so I’ve got to get a new one before I can look again.
I wish I had looked in the bore before shooting any rounds to see if that was present or if it’s something related to the shooting that I’ve done or the cleaning that I’ve done. But that’s not the case.
Don’t know what to make of that but if the thing is shooting as well as it is with that eldx load I don’t think I can really complain or ask to send it back.
Overall I’m impressed. Those eldx groups are some of the best groups I’ve seen with a 7prc.
One minor gripe, one of the screws that holds the little section of pic rail/qd cup either didn’t come with the gun or fell off during the very first range session. Browning has mailed me a replacement and I will use some Loctite when I put that thing on.
