New accuracy testing protocol

Just want to make certain I understand completely the new testing protocol you’re going to be doing for rifle accuracy. I understand it’s 20 rounds, that’s in five shot groups? Cooling time between groups, or even between shots?

Thanks

We are placing four targets downrange and leveling them. Then shooting four 5-shot groups. 15 minute break between groups.

Because we leveled the targets, we can then stack them and mark the impacts from all groups on one page.

We then use the Hornady group analysis feature to get the center mean, measure the groups individually, and lay on target rings to see what percentage of impacts landed in each ring.

The reason we don’t just shoot 20 times at one paper is because we lose too many shots going into the same hole and then can’t score it.

Here is our excel sheet we’ve started tracking groups on. It’ll get filled out a lot in the coming weeks. Rifle Accuracy Database - Google Sheets

this is really cool info, and MY GOSH that sig cross sawtooth!!! Might have to get my hands on one of those. I love my regular cross so much.

BTW

Thoroughly agree with your opinion on bedding. If it needs to be done, then the darn company that makes the rifle should do it. It used to be that way but it seems like companies have gotten away from that

Better analogy for you, it’s like going to the shop to buy the F-150 and having the dealer tell you that while the engine and transmission are technically in the vehicle, they aren’t bolted down and it’s up to you the buyer to go in and purchase all the nuts, bolts and fasteners to make sure they are both attached appropriately before driving off.

Here is an article on a similar and interesting method, it has a target download for the method.

Good thing to see others getting on board. Otherwise if only one place does 20 shot groups, but the industry as well as the rest of YouTube continues to talk about three shot groups, then it makes it nearly impossible to actually make comparisons
