Do you need to do anything to new brass other than sizing?
Brand new brass you shouldn’t even need to size it. Just make sure it’s brand new and never been shot or anything.
If so then your next steps are:
- Put a primer in the case
- Measure your powder and fill the case
- Press a bullet into the hole
If you need detailed instructions then Jim has a whole reloading course. I suggest going through that before you do something you regret. Generally I suggest loading a dummy round or two with no powder and primer before you add those bits in just to get the hang of it, and double check your measurements.
For new brass I typically run a expander mandrel through the neck to straighten/make them uniform and that’s pretty much it.
I usually just run it through an expander mandrel to fix any smashed necks from shipping.
I also chamfer the mouth inside and out a bit to even things out for bullet setting…
Your videos are very informative for new reloaders and old timers alike . Thank you
I shoot Lapua brass, and I have noticed their factory next tension is too tight for me. On 6.5 PRC my Forster neck tension gauge that starts at .261 won’t even fit, so I run a thru my Cortina mandrel die for get it to .262.
