I’m in the market for a new rifle for deer and elk. I was thinking of getting a Tikka in 6.5 prc, but here is where I’m questioning my thoughts. I was thinking of putting in on a mdt carbon stock! My question is would my money be better spent on something else?
I really like my Bergara B-14 Squared Crest CF in 6.5 PRC. It is the most accurate rifle I own, is a pleasure to shoot, comes with an excellent CF stock, and a CF barrel. If it’s in your price range, I can’t recommend it enough.
Tikka 6.5 prc is a great choice. I’d try that Norma Bondstrike ammo with it. I am not sure if Sako makes a 6.5 prc load.
They do. A 120 powerhead blade.
No experience with it personally
I’ve had great accuracy with Berger factory 140 Elite Hunter.
Bonstrike and Berger 140g are my go to loads for 6.5prc. Taken deer with both, and both are great.
For the rifle and MDT cr stock I’d be in the 2k range. Would you recommend something else in that price point or roll with the Tikka?
You might look at the Seekins Precision Havak PH3
Yay finally they have the crbn for tikkas![]()
If you’re not rushed, have fun building one from scratch, buy an action and start putting the puzzle together.
I think either the Seekins hunt chassis or backfire chassis is going to be a better deal the the MDT hunt chassis
I think Eurooptics/Scopelist still has a tikka T3x in 6.5prc in that $649 range, you could then send it to Oregon mountain rifle for there “TIKKA T3/T3X UPGRADE PACKAGE”
https://omrifles.com/product/tikka-t3-t3x-upgrade-package/
https://www.scopelist.com/tikka-t3x-lite-65-prc-24-1-8-bbl-synthetic-blued-rifle-jrtxe319
Or buy a long action and build a 6.5-284…
I love my $649 Tikka T3x superlight 6.5prc its a great mtn gun it has the 22.4” barrel, i handload the Berger 156g EOL bullet its a great round second on the Bondstrike.
Im putting it in a Backlight chassis.
Another option is a CVA Cascade XT 6.5 prc (yes i have one) tackdriver it has the Bergara barrel 24” im putting it in a Backlight chassis as well.
I don’t shoot 6.5 prc, but I love my Tikka.
Battlehawk Armory is having a amazing sale currently on Springfield Waypoint 2020’s, lightweight guns with trigger tech triggers, BSF carbon fiber barrels worth looking at, as it’s as close to a custom gun for $1299
I have a Springfield waypoint 2020 in 6.5 prc it’s the most accurate rifle I own. I just don’t know how you could improve on this gun. I love it.
$1299???
Doesn’t that thing retail for somewhere between $2,000 to $2,100?
Yep there typically in that $2000 range, so I’m sure they’ll sell out fast, both my friends have waypoints and both are 1/2” guns… I would jump on this but I’m stuck doing 2 custom builds currently… and am cash poor
You’ll have to do search for Springfield waypoint 2020, the $1299 deals will pop up
I’m leaning towards that gun, what experiences have you had with ammo? You shooting factory or hand loading?
I am shooting both. It likes the Norma Golden Target load and I have loaded the 147gn Hornady ELD-M and the 143 ELD-X over 4831SC. I get 1/2 MOA all day IF I do my part.
My friends 2020 is not picky and has shot lights out everything he’s put in there, he only does factory ammo, don’t think we’ve ever gone over a 1” on anything he’s tried. But that’s with the BSF carbon fiber barrel. I can’t say how there stainless fluted barrels do
