New Rifle 6.5prc

So I had purchased a used Seekins Precision Havak Bravo in 6.5prc. I got it for $1100.00. It shot very well .5 - .75 MOA. I have some steel targets at my hunting lease at 100, 165 (In feeder pen), 305, and 520 yards. Had no problem with “Impact!”. I am 71, and I am not going to be competing in long distance shooting. This rifle has a 24 inch heavy bull barrel, and as a whole it is heavy as a long range gun would be, and for me as a hunting rifle it is too damn heavy. So I sold the Bravo and got my money back out of it.

I like Seekins Precision rifles. I have a SP10 AR10 platform in .308 that is my pig gun. So since I sold my 6.5prc, and I have a Sig Cross 6.5CM, and a Fierce Mountain Reaper in 7prc, I just really needed a light weight, 6.5prc. So I didn’t have a choice, I had to have that 5.5 pound Seekins Precision Slam. Factory said it will shoot as good as the Bravo without the hernia. Will see how it shoots tomorrow.

Looks good! Hope it shoots great for you.

So the Seekins Slam did not disappoint. What was surprising was I loaded some 6.5prc with 143gr ELDX last night and this morning. My reloads shot as well or better than Hornady Precision Hunter, and Berger Elite Hunter. I shot 14 rounds of my reloads Min 2841.8fps, Average 2850.7fps, Max 2869.6fps. EXT Sprd 27.8fps, STD DEV 6.7fps.

Since the rifle was new I mounted the scope and sighted in the rifle. That is the next photo.

This is the Berger Elite Hunter

This is my reloads

All in all I am happy with the Seekins Slam. Really happy with the reloads as I am a new reloader. Due to time constrains I did no cool down between rounds.

I did notice shooting at a 100 yard indoor range, the blow back from the suppressor made it difficult to focus on the target. I had no trouble focusing on the crosshairs but the target was another story.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a rifle myself. I have been wishy washy on the caliber and have decided to go with 6.5 PRC but no one here shoots it and there is ammo for it but I can online order until I get the reloading going.
So the question I have before pulling the preverbal trigger what makes me want that cartridge and is it as good as I hope it to be?
I currently looking at the Begara B14 HMR Pro the one instore is a Carbon edition. However I can replace the barrel with an Outlier cheap enough if I dont like the carbon or if I have an issue with it,

Unlike Jim I am not a fan of Bergara. I bought a Bergara MGLite in 6.5prc. It would shoot 3 or 4 rounds accurately, but when the barrel heated up the accuracy would degrade rapidly. I am a fan of Fierce and Seekins Precision. I have a Sig Cross in 6.5cm, a Fierce Mountain Reaper in 7prc, and a Seekins Precision Slam in 6.5prc… all 3 maintain accuracy with multiple rounds fired. I had a Seekins Havak Bravo which was a long range gun, 24 in barrel but since i am a hunter and not a long range shooter I sold it and bought the Slam. It was also very heavy and since I am 71 I didn’t want to haul the weight.

So I would recommend the Fierce Carbon Rogue, The Seekins Precision Havak Pro Hunter PH2, or the Seekins Havak HIT. All have a lifetime warranty and are American made. Bergara are made in Bergara, Spain.

Since I have 6.5cm, 6.5prc, and 7prc., I like all three. You didn’t say what you were hunting and where you are located.

I really like the 6.5prc, and seem to have a good reload for it.

I am Kentucky in trying to get in long range with some white tail hunting. Thank you for the insight.

6.5 prc is an awesome whitetail cartridge and will easily stretch to 1,000+ yards with less recoil than 7prc. No real need to go to a 7 unless you plan to hunt bigger game, elk size or larger
