New rifle or rebarrel an old trusty

Question for the board…I have an old ‘67 Remington 700 DBL with a bull barrel chambered in 6mm Remington that is an absolute tack driver. The Action has been blueprinted and hand lapped to the barrel. I am considering getting it rebarreled into a 25 Creedmoor…

I hunt in SE Texas and SE Alaska and want to use the same rifle to target shot as well. I have the 6mm Remington set up for target shooting and I reload. I have about 200 pieces of brass (100 twice fired and 100 new) as well as 100 rounds of Core-Locked ammo.

What do you think I should do? Build a 25 Creedmoor and keep the 6mm, or rebarrel the 6mm…

I’d say there’s no need to wreck a good thing. You could probably find a shot out 22-250 for next to nothing and rebarrel that. Especially since you have all the reloading gear.

Just pick up a new action, barrel, everyone like a new toy next to a classic

Yeah, love the idea of having an old classic in the safe, I have a couple myself.

Have you ran the cost $ numbers to compare both options?

Just a thought…

I have run the numbers and it would be about half the cost to rebarrel…but I’m not sure I want to get rid of a great shooting rifle

Keep the 6mm, accurate, unique, and cool. Maybe some family history? Build a new 25 CM or wait for shot show to see new releases.
