Hey Josh!

For brass, I’d start with cheap Hornady brass. It’s likely you’ll make mistakes on your first 4-5 batches, so make it on the cheap stuff. After that, Lapua, Alpha, and Peterson are the best.

For powders, you’ll likely want a couple reloading manuals or look up online to see what powders work for your cartridges.

I recommend staying with the Hodgdon Extreme line or other very popular powders wherever possible. Varget, Retumbo, H4350, H1000, etc but also N555 or N560 for some of the newer magnums.

308 Win reloading suggestions for HUNTING

  1. winchester brass

  2. Federal brass

  3. hornady brass

  4. lapua brass

  5. CCI large rifle primers

  6. CCI large rifle benchrest primers

  7. Federal 210 primers

  8. Federal 210 Match primers

  9. Speer 125 TNT hollow points (very affordable, easy to load, shoot very accurately, great for learning loading without burning premium bullets, absolute killers out to 400 yards)

  10. Hornady 168 ELDM or AMAX if you can find them

  11. Hornady 155 ELDM or AMAX if you can find them

  12. Nosler 125 Ballistic Tip

  13. Sierra 165 Gameking Hollowpoint

  14. Nosler 165 Ballistic Tip

  15. Hornady 178 ELDM or X

  16. Sierra 165 Soft Point Gameking

  17. Varget

  18. IMR 4064

  19. Ramshot TAC (most affordable powder on the market)

  20. IMR 3031

There are others as the 308 Win is fun and easy to load, but these are the primaries that I have settled on after loading the 308 for 25+ years.

I would just add to that, if you live in an area that requires copper or you just want to try the monometal projectiles, the Barnes 150 gr TTSX. I have had good results with it in 308.

Yeah, the 130 ttsx is also very good in the 308.

Thanks
