I have a neighbor who has housed foreign exchange college students for years. He currently has a couple of Chinese students and he says they come from very wealthy families. One of them has multiple firears that he has purchased here in the States, including a 50 cal with night vision optics. I am not a fan of non-citizens being able to buy firearms. Especially with all of the people that are flooding our southern border and getting away from law enforcement. It scares me to think of how many evil people have just walked right in.
How could a non-citizen buy a gun? The 4473 asks if you’re a citizen as a requirement to buy.
Permanent residents can purchase firearms. Nearly every part of the constitution applies to non-citizens as well as citizens. The primary reason that illegal immigrants cannot purchase firearms is that they are already committing a crime. Form 4473 has a field for non-citizens to enter a green card number or similar.
An undocumented immigrant in Chicago just had their gun charge from 2020 thrown out of court a couple months ago. Press release stated that immigrants have Second Amendment Rights as well. I don’t know what’s going on.
I think a non citizen can legally obtain a firearm if they have a hunting license.
That is just it. They can. It is legal. I am just not sure why that is a thing. He is here legally with a student visa of some kind. He has a US Identification.
I bought multiple firearms when I was a permanent resident (green card holder). The only difference was that the background check would take 24 hours to clear.
After I became a US citizen I went and bought a Ruger American just to experience going home with the rifle on the same day! ![]()
Yes I’ve worked for an FFL before and in essence, if they’re here legally, non-citizens can purchase a gun if they have a reason to have one (a hunting license is the most common reason used, I believe being a member of a rifle club or something might work too), if they pass a background check.
Well, there’s always the “black market.” I would rather them buying legally and being registered than not.
An Australian in Salt Lake City went into a mall downtown with a broken down AR in his backpack. A waitress saw the barrel protruding from the bag and called the police. The police found the AR and some loaded mags and confiscated the rifle.
The Australian later contacted the TV station that original ran the story and said he had a hunting license and bought the AR at a gun store. He said he was meeting a buddy to go shooting and was waiting for him at the mall. He also said the police wouldn’t return his rifle.
It doesn’t sound like he did anything illegal. He could have walked into the mall open carrying the carbine. If he had a hunting license he appears to have been in legal possession of the rifle. He said he was looking for a lawyer to sue to get his rifle back.
