Yikes! 2656 for a 20” 22 creed?!?! That’s extremely slow.
wanted to try this load but looks like they went out of stock fast.
Yea my thoughts as well. Is it I have a super slow barrel or what is causing this as I see so many with much higher velocity’s. It seems my chronograph is just fine as I have gotten good results with other loads in other calibers
There website still shows it in stock- they probably block you from purchasing as they’re afraid you might do a online review
Chris what gun are you shooting? That just seems abnormally low. I know this won’t be apples to apples because I can cherry pick the powder, but the 88 ELD-M’s are almost 3,000 FPS out of a 16” barrel. I would think the Nosler 85’s would be in that neighborhood, especially in a 20” barrel, even if they are using a different powder.
I’m shooting a Ruger American gen 2. I have one with the stock 20 inch barrel. I have another with a Odin works 22 inch barrel with the Ruger American gen 2. That one is faster but both are much slower than what others are getting. I’m very disappointed with the speeds to say the least. Not sure what to think. Is it some bad lots of ammunition? But with 4 different loads Nosler 70gr Hornady eldx and eldm 80 gr and Nosler 85gr. Wouldn’t think all 4 would be bad. And 2 different barrels from different manufacturers I would think one would be good. Is it in the chassis of the Ruger American? If anyone has an idea of what it might be I would be happy to listen . This is the best speed I got with the 22 inch barrel with the 70gr Nosler
Well, my Ruger is really not so stock in a sense, as it’s
in a MDT field stock, with a Timney trigger and using a suppressor… so it’s not stock… but barrel length is barrel length regardless. The only thing I can think of is that the 22” Go Wild” is a 1/7.7 barrel twist, and Rugers 20” barrel is a 1/8 barrel twist?
Yes the Ruger 20 inch barrel is a 1-8 twist. Like you said length is length though. If it was a 16 inch with that speed it would be fine and even expected it seems. I can’t see how the trigger would make any difference. Maybe a chamber that’s not as tight as it should be? ChatGPT says I’m 150fps slower at least than expected
Oh, 3200fps is great for a 22” barrel. I was commenting on it being super slow based on the other photo you posted showing 2656fps.
The 2650 was the 85 grain out of the 20 inch barrel. The 3200 was the 70gr out of the 22 inch barrel. Just asked chat gpt and it thinks my velocity is normal for what it’s worth when I asked if my speed was normal with more factors then the above one where they say 3150 on the low end
That seems weird that a 15gr difference in bullet would take it from 3200 to 2650. That’s crazy.
The 2650 was the 85gr out of the 20 inch. The 3200 was the 70gr out of the 22inch so not quite as extreme but that 85gr was going 350fps slower then the 80gr out of the same 20 inch barrel
How many times has the 20” been shot?
I have 40-50 shots through it. So yea I know they say that it takes 100 plus to get the velocity higher and settle in. But I also see some with brand new guns and the difference doesn’t seem to be much 20-30 on average
