@backfire how are you liking your nx8 scopes vs the mark 5 you had? I love my nx8, but have also always really appreciated the huge eye box on the vx5 and vx6, so considering a mark 5, but want to here any first hand experience anyone has to share. Thanks
I have one Mark 5 currently on a rifle. They only one I’ve got any experience with. I either currently own, or have owned more vx5 and vx6 then I can count right now.
The mark 5 certainly feels more robust than anything in the VX line. I do know however that other people on the net have tested them and found them to be lacking.
To me it feels like the VX line has a much better eye box. I haven’t looked at the specs to see if that’s truly a thing, or if it’s just on my particular rifle I have to mount the mark 5 further forward.
No experience with the nx8. I have a couple of NXS’s that work quite well although I’m never been a big fan of their reticles for a hunting rifle
I agree w everything you said. I like my nx8 a lot, but the eye box is a little tight. I love all my vx5 & vx6, like you alluded to, but think I want something ffp and more robust for longer shots and great reliability, when elk hunting. I generally use a firedot reticle on my deer rifles, but those shots are almost always 100-250 yards max, here in Tn. So no need to Hold over for wind or anything. May just stick w the nx8, since they are pretty bombproof, but was curious nonetheless, as I just built a new 280ai, that I plan to take to Utah in sept for elk, and still need an optic for it.
Should have mentioned that while there is a definite corner of the internet that keeps talking about how fragile the mark 5 is, Mr Davidson, the owner of Gunwerks, says that in his experience they are very robust.
