Open sights only hunts suck

So, went deer hunting on opening day on the Cache Unit which was changed to open sights only by the bone heads at the Utah DNR. I jumped one nice buck, but he was about 250 yards away and running. No kind of a shot with open sights! If I had my 6.5 CM with a scope I may have been able to make the shot. I’m pretty disgusted with the way the DNR is ruining the hunting opportunities in the state of Utah.

My nephew hunted that exact same tag over the weekend. Same story.

I own over 60 hunting rifles and literally didn’t even have one rifle with open sights for him to buy.

Kinda dumb that they keep changing the rules constantly that requires new gear purchases just to be legal. I spent a lot of money on a nice muzzleloader a couple years ago that is now pointless with the law change.

I had no open sight rifles in my safe. I ended up trading one of my .45 ACP’s for a Savage 99, chambered in .300 Savage. A great rifle, but my longest standing off hand shot was limited to 100 yards (that’s the distance I felt good about while practicing at the range). Anyone want to buy a .300 Savage?

Feel your pain. This has been by far the hardest deer hunt I can remember. Most bucks have been too far to take an ethical shot. Would have had this hunt done a few times over if i could use a scope. Feels like archery hunting with a gun. I’ve seen a record amount of people opening morning, but literally no bucks hanging in anyone’s camp.
