Optics/Scope Decision

Tell me why I should NOT buy the Burris Veracity PH 4-20x50and put it on my Bergara MGLite 7PRC and use it as an all-around hunting rifle. I am having a tough time going that route and not a more conventional scope. Dont know why.

I was hesitant about that setup for a serious hunting rifle until I went out and actually shot with it. I was just crushing target after target out to 1100 yards. It was an absolute game changer.

The only reason I see to pick something else is because it’s not legal in Utah and Idaho because of the electronics in the scope. Other than that, I’d put them on most of my hunting rifles.

In fact, I liked it so much that I’m becoming a Burris dealer. I think that means I’ll be able to offer scopes to you guys at below retail prices for Backfire Plus members. Stay tuned.

I thought the way the law was written in Utah that it was legal in Utah because it is not using any external range finding information or targeting system. I actually just got off the phone with an field agent from Utah and he stated that the law stats that there is no other electronics allowed in a scope other than an illuminated reticle.

So Jim… now what. Suggestions. I have a Burris XTR that i could swap it out the week of my trip with twinkie or what you suggest in the money range. 1000 to 1500.

How long before you might get that dealer deal? I can wait a month or 2

That is the exact rig I setup this winter.

Bergara MG Lite 7MM PRC with Burris Veracity PH - It is the ultimate combination in my opinion.

I will need to be mind-full of local hunting laws where ever I hunt since there are places that electronics on a scope are not legal.

Cheers!

The glass is not as good as some of the high quality scopes, but will work if not at last light. Still you should varify your dope before the actual hunt.

I think im grabbing this too. The Burris PH us really sweet. And such a good price.

Good call.

I’ve always been a Leupold fan, but holy cats, the Veracity and Eliminator look freaking sweet! I’d love to see Utah approve them for hunting. Wonder how much it would change harvest rates.

Decided on the Burris XTR 3 3.3 x18x 50 to mount on the 7PRC bergara mglite to bring to utah to hunt with Twinkie

I got it… shes a beauty!

That’s great. Then i will check with you. I only have one question for you. I know it might be early for that but here we go, do you think you would offer a layaway plan? Thanks.

Jim,
Since you are very familiar with the Burris scope lines, could you tell me what is the difference between Burris Veracity PH 4-20x50mm #200203 at $1,299 vs. Burris Veracity PH 4-20x50mm #200200 at $799 on sale (regular price is $999). I keep reading to see for the difference besides the $300 price difference! And which of their XTR model do you recommend as well, beside the Eliminator 6? Thanks.

I knw im not Jim but the cheaper one is last years model and it does not have illuminated reticle. Since the Veracity PH is illegal in Utah i went with the XTR 3 3x18x50 and put it on my Bergara mglite 7PRC. i like the exposed turret to dial.

Thanks for the reply. It was actually directed at anybody with the answer. If it is illegal in Utah, i am willing to bet it’s illegal in CA as well.
The one i really like to get is the Eliminator VI. I belive it’s legal in CA. But the XTRs price point makes them quite affordable. There’s one more Trijicon Tenmile (#3000007) on top of my list to get and i will be done with most of my acquisitions for every rifle i have, just waiting on it to go on sale. Thanks for the info again.

@OnlyELR In one of Jim’s latest videos shooting with Burris I heard them say the glass has been improved in the new PH models as well as the illuminated reticle. They are also offering more magnification selections.

Then i supposed, it is worth the additional $300. Of course you can always buy it lower during a sale.

Are you aware of any other states where these are illegal?

Thanks

I am not. I think just in Utah and Idaho

How does the Burris Veracity PH do with adjusting for altitude?

While on a call with a instructor for a long range shooting school I am considering attending later this year, he suggested against this scope due to not trusting its ability to adjust due to different elevations so I wanted to see what folks who has the scope thought and had experienced.

That’s really a use case scenario. Long range shooting and long range hunting are very different numbers. Shooting - 1000+ yards right? Hunting would be over 300 yards for most, 400-500 for the best or most reckless. The question to me seems to be is the Standard Div between, lets say 350 yards, the elevations acceptable. If its acceptable, and the scope is legal to hunt with where you hunt, then its a winner.

I went with the Element Titan 3-18 only because of the legality. I think as more manufacturers embrace the internal range finder and HUD, states will acquiesce.

My main concern is under 400 yards. Will the scope and the software it uses compensate accurately for altitude. I am assuming there is a setting in the app for elevation and wondering how accurate it is.
