So Ive; been reading and watching and I here tell that the Proof Carbon fiber barrels with the aluminum dust in formulation of the carbon wrap cool as well or Better!?!? than Stainless steel . I have not seen a vid proofing this so im looking for err……Proof
LOL Any input would be awesome
@backfire have you had experience or reviewded anything with these barrels? ![]()
Just finished my elk hunt with a friend who has 30” proof barrel on his 300PRC. He says he can shoot all day with no heat issues. That’s what he says.
Thanks @BEN That’s a great statement. Does he go to the range with It and shoot extended sessions with longer strings?
I’ve shot lots of Proof CF barrels. They’re fantastic. But as good as steel? Not that I’ve seen.
Thanks I guess the question really is do they Cool off relatively quickly or is It hype and they are much the same as other CF barrels?
I don’t know if temperature wise they cool off faster or if it’s just a stiffer carbon fiber application that makes it less prone to the effects of heating up, but I would say it’s one of the better carbon fiber barrels.
But I wouldn’t say it competes with steel.
Sounds like a great experiment that could be done by somebody who has a YouTube channel or something like that
Ya think ![]()
Now that I’ve slept, I think I can answer this question better. The Proof CF barrels are lighter than steel, but like a thicker steel they don’t loose their accuracy when hot. CF does lose heat faster than steel, that’s fact, but they often heat up faster (like the Cure barrels) and can be less accurate when hot. That isn’t the case with Proof and from what I’ve read, Bartlein CF barrels as well.
It would be great to see a ‘Shoot Out’ Pun intended LOL The concern is going to the range shooting big strings and having to wait 30-40 mins between strings . If It actually cools with a barrel cooler fast That would be great and id hate to burn out a thin steel sleeve in teh barrel
There is a utube video comparing the two. Just Google.
